hi can anyone help im new to family trees but now i have started i cant stop its fascinating,im stuck on my 2xgreat grandmother emily halls born 1873 parents.i have them as nathaniel hall born 1829 and catherine turnbull born 1832 both from the newcastle area and i believe they married 1854, i have the details of there children,elizabeth being the youngest,but i cant find anymore details on her parents.can anyone help??? it would be great if you could.

They have Nathaniel Hall marrying Catherine Turnbull 1854 in All Saints Newcastle - you can print a form to order the certificate and this will give you both of their father's names. It will also tell you their ages and where they were living (you may then be able to find them on the 1851 cencus) which will all help to track down their births.

I have had a look at the 1861 census for the Byker area (District 6) and I think I have spotted the entry for Nathaniel & Catherine at Byker Fields Ropery

Catherine Hall Wife Married 21 - Newcastle, All Saints
Mary Ann Hall Dau. Single 8 Scholar Newcastle, All Saints

Isabella Hall Dau. Single 3 Scholar Newcastle, All Saints
Elizabeth Hall Dau. Single 1 - Newcastle, All Saints
I am not sure about Catherine's age it does look like 21, but perhaps it should have been 27 otherwise she was rather young to have an 8 year old daughter. The other possibility is it was Nathaniel's second marriage. When you get the marriage certificate it might make it a bit clearer. I also think Nathaniel wanted a boy, because 10 years later in 1871 the family had grown!

A boy - success at last!
When you do get the marriage certificate, which should give the names of the fathers, and if it turns out that Nathaniel's father was also called Nathaniel then this entry on the 1851 census might be of help.

There are a few Catherine Turnbull's on the 1851 census, but unfortunately they all seem to be working away from home as servants, so no family around them to check the names of their parents. Perhaps when you have more details you might be able to select the correct Catherine.

thankyou for that,thats the family and the family continued to grow my gt gran x2 was born 1873,but they only had the 1 son nathaniel.hopefully when i get the birth cert it will help with the answers i need.im finding this tree fascinating and very addictive.thankyou again for the tme you spent on searching.patsy :)

hi ive been reading your post and i have been trying to find info on nathaniel hall he would be my grandads mums dad, i think... my grandad was richard wilson bowey and his mum was emily hall born c1872 her father was nathaniel hall born 1829 ish.
i know that nathaniel hall married a catherine turnbull and had lots of children, just wondered if you had any more info you might be willing to share, if this is the same people that you are searching?? thanks very much yvonne.

it is the same family,your grandad richard was the brother to my gt gran catherine hall bowey.i have a photo of what my great aunt believed was richard as well as some of the other siblings.my great aunt is the daughter of catherine hall bowey.so you would be my gt aunts cousin.
i have been trying to find nathaniels birth for months but he doesnt seem to exist till he married catherine turnbull.but your more then welcome to look at my tree.and i do have certs etc for the family as well.if you would like any of them.i also have some photos of some of them including one or two of your grandad.which my gt aunt gave me.she remembers matthew bowey from when she was a child but emily had died by then.
