Hi,
would anyone have any info on the Ring family from Bandon,Co,Cork.
My g,g,grandmother was Margaret Ring b 1831 in Bandon, she married
Denis Crimmins/Crimmen/Cremen around 1853,I think they may have married
in Ireland as I cannot find a marriage in Cardiff which is where they were
living in 1861,Denis was also born in Bandon 1821.
I'm not sure, but I do not think Ring was a very common name in Ireland.
Thanks
Diane

One of my ancestors married a CATHERINE RING 1761 Kilsbanning Cork. If RING is unusual name it might apply. Lor

I see you have been looking for both Ring and Din(n)een, both of which are part of my Dinneen line.
I don't know if there is a connection, but I have the following:
On the 26th July 1846 at St. Mary's Church, Newport, Wales:
George Dinneen, of full age, bachelor, labourer of Caer Street, Newport, father Daniel Dinneen, a labourer
married
Ellen Ring, of full age, spinster, a huxter of Pillgwenlly, father John Ring, a butcher.
Witnesses were James and Catherine Leahy.
Later census entries show they were both Irish, but no closer details thn that. Family legend says they were from county Cork, but no specifics.
Luck!

Hi apd,
I am still no wiser about about my g,g,grandma Ring
I recently had research done by an irish firm Ennaclan--they could not find her.
I plan to visit Ireland this year, and i am going to try and book a visit with the parish priest of Bandon.Co,Cork,to see if i can find out anything about the family.
When i was in Ireland last year,i visited a pub near Bandon, and the landlady told me that Ring is a County Cork name--she pointed out a photograph hanging on the wall of Christy Ring--the famous Irish hurler!(could be a relation)lol.
I will post if i find anything(hope you will resiprocate).
Regards

Do you know her religion? You need to talk to the right type of priest!
There were 220 Ring households in Ireland in the Griffith Valuation, 1851-53 in Co Cork. There were 143 in Cork, some in Kilkenny and Limerick, the rest scattered randomly.
None were in Bandon town itself so perhaps they moved away. Where did Eneclann look? The parish records for Ballymodan?
Catholic records exist around 1831 http://www.ireland.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Cork%20South-West&parish=Bandon&churchid=17
Anglican - These records start 1695. Baptismal 1695 to 1778, marriages 1695 - 1858 and burials 1695-1878

hi Kate,
I am presuming Margaret Ring was a catholic as my dad's side of the family all are.
I cannot find a marriage for Margaret and Denis Crimmins in the bmd's.so maybe she married in Ireland.
I am not impressesdwith Enaclan, as I asked them to look for a birth/marriage for Denis Crimmins---this was at the end of december.
I sent them 2 e-mails in march as I had not heard from them, somebody from their office then contacted me to say that my research request had been misfiled, and they would get to me in a week's time.
10 days later I recieved an e-mail from them that read:
Searched Denis Crimmins -Bandon-Co,Cork--1821 (5 yrs either side) no trace.
That was it--no mention of searching for his marriage to Margaret Ring, and they did not say what and where they searched--very brief and to the point.
Unless I go to Ireland and search for myself I guess I have hit one of those brick walls(head on).
Cheers

Tithe applot found on Margaret Grogans page home.ispdr.net.au/-mgrogan/cork/ire.cork.htm
Type" 1834 tithe applot "in box. Go down to No.7.
I have just discovered I am related to Ring/Heggart/Ludgate /Berry on this list. There are Crimmins on it too. I have a message somewhere here about it on this site."Ring family Kilshanneg" Lorraine

Hi Lormar,
thanks for that---these sites are brilliant.
Don't know if the Crimmins and Ring's mentioned are related to me--but they make fascinating reading.
