Title: Knackers Hole
Post by: carrielovesfanta on Friday 24 March 06 15:53 GMT (UK)
Hi all,

I have an address in the 1851 census for a family given as:

Knackers Hole, Ewings St, Tiverton, Devon

Does this mean something or is it just a house name?

All thoughts greatly appreciated

Caz

I guess it could be...the head of the family is listed as a farm labourer though - maybe he had lodgings at a pub?

Hi
There was a place or farm called Knackers Hole near Cove, 5 miles north of Tiverton
I'm not sure about Ewings St. though
If you are still interested tell me the Name of the person so I can look at the census.

Hi
I haven't found the Knacker's Hole that corrie mentioned , but I have found a Farm or Hamlet called Ewings about 2 mls ESE of Cove on the unclassified road.

I'll go find the ref for the census (this was posted before I realised just how important it was!!)

Thanks for the replies :)

The Wood family are the ones that I'm interested in. I tried searching for that but no luck. I don't think it was my day. lol.

Hi Caz
Just stumbled on this site while trying to help a colleague. I know it appears to be yonks since you posted here, but I wondered are you still doing your very generous "Look up" offer? By the way, I think that your version of the Fanta bottle is way better thn the standard one. Hope you receive this .

Best
