Title: John & Ellen Ryder - Any information
Post by: m4uke on Thursday 23 March 06 20:25 GMT (UK)
Hi everyone

Looking for any information on John Ryder and Ellen Ryder (nee Forth).  John was born around 1832 in Shropshire and Ellen in Portsea c1847.

They were married and lived in Portsea which i have found on the 1881 and 1891 census but I can not find the parental lineage.  ???

Any information would be greatfully received.

Marcus

1861: Worthen
John Rider 31 yrs b Worthen - servant Workhouse Inn, Public House, Little Worthen
searched 1851 - none listed as born Worthen matching Ryder/Rider

1851 has a John Ryder b about 1835 Welshpool - servant at Ford, Shropshire.  There are servants there who were born Worthen so it's not too distant. There doesn't seem to be a match for this in 1861 - which may indicate he is yours.
I suppose the best thing to do now it is perhaps do a new post for 1841- Worthen maybe?

Someone like to double check me if they have time Marcus but you may not be able to pick up the parental linage because of this info......

When tracking back to the 1861 i could only find this John with near enough birth date.

                Shropshire District 6 RG9 4255

                 Worthen Township

                 Workhouse Inn ,Public House

Thomas Phillips    Head  M 40  Inkeeper
                  Mary Phillips 34 Westmeath  Shropshire
Ann Tatt  15 Housemaid   b  Worthen  salop
John Rider  31   Servant  Unm b Worthen
John Griffiths  61 Lodger Cattle Dealer  b UnK

Cannot find this John Rider in 1851 ::) but.......

                 1851    Shropshire FORD DIstrict 2 HO107/1991

William Wall Head 39 Farmer of 90 acres b Pontabury
Mary Ann Head  31 Farmers wife              b Worthen
Richard Head son 14                                 b Ford
Elizabeth Head dau 7                                b Ford
William Head  son  5                                  b Ford
Margaret Ellen dau 2 months                     b Ford
Eliza Sheen 13  servant                              b Worthen
                 Emma Grice     20  servant                          b   ''
John Ryder 16  servant                               b  Whelshpool  Montgomeryshire Wales

but cannot find this John  ::)on the 1861. The nearest birth date to this John was 1842 or 1825.   So like later years maybe he was either or? And maybe he parental lineage was in Wales.

Hope you found this some use . best wishes cheryle.f

I'm glad you typed it all out- yes I agree with you and have just checked - there are Rider in Welshpool -1851 but of course it's the 1841 that Marcus needs to go for now. Welshpool/ Worthen and Ford are in a triangle and Welshpool and Worthen are 11 miles apart. Genuki says that part of the parish was in Montgomeryshire.
Hope Marcus can get some more info from all this!

And i picked up too on the Ellen Foot idea in 1851 but i looked at this one and looking at the names of the mother and sister maybe it's more than coincidence.....

Had a look through to see if the Foot name had been mistranscribed in the 51 and followed the 61,71,and still the same all through to the 81. Where yet again the daughter in this case takes their  mothers name for the daughter.. This daughter  married as a Foot so absolutley no mistakes here. There are no near misses even with the Forth surname and Ellen!!!!!!!

         1881 Portsea District 25 RG11/1156 page 21
          64 Hyde Park Road

Anna  Tuck   Head  41  Widow (income from the mangle) b Portsmouth
Anna Tuck    Dau     5   scholar                                          b Portsmouth
Elizabeth Tuck dau  2                                                        b Portsmouth
Thomas Foot  father 77 Widr  Farm Lab                             b Portsmouth

          Anna M Foot 1866 2b 714 Oct-Dec
Portsea Island Hampshire married John Tuck

No Ellen Forth born in 1847 Portsea that i can find but...

Ellen Foot 1847 Apr-June Quarter V7  1-2 Portsea Island hampshire.  Where did you get the  nee Forth info from in the beginning.

                           regards cheryle

PS Looks like heywood scored a direct hit earlier with the BMD info.

Ellen Foot 2b 655 1873  Jul - Sep Quarter  Portsea Island
                    married John Ryder

so looks like in the 1871 they were not married in the census but said they were.

Thats it now :'( i'm going  for a lie down ...i'm knackered ;D

enjoy ;) hope it all leads to something

                                         best wishes cheryle

 Oh! just one more thing......

          John Ryder Birth Date 1833
Died Jan - Mar Quarter 1907 age 74 11b 142  Forden Montgomeryshire Shropshire

                                       night ;D

This is not your John as looks like he died between the 81 and 91 census's but John may turn out to have some connection with your tree as some similarities.

Looks like this could be your John....

                              John Ryder b about 1838

                              Year of Reg 1888  Jul-Sep Quarter age 50 Portsea Island 2b 276

Hi Heywood....i  got looking at something for someone else and you know how it is.......i 'm glad your still on , as i would like to run this idea by you for Marcus then maybe this one can well and truly tied up! In the 1871 John and Ellen have Emily C Fowler living with them as Neice. In the 1851 for Ellen Foot her older sister is Sarah J Foot.  In Portsea...

1854 Sarah Jane Foot marries John Samuel Fowles Ju-Sep quarter
                2b 518a

That marriage you found  has to be theirs....just too many coincidences in this whole thing not to be the right people. I think i would even make a wager on this all coming right in the end ::)

                       Marcus...good luck ;D
