Dear Von
Have you tried the Salvation Army.  They can be very good at finding people, if they want to be found.
Good luck

Hi Von,

The GRO (Government Record Office) offer a service called "Traceline" for people looking for lost relatives. You have to phone them first, to discuss it, - before they will send you an application form. I believe that they charge a flat fee of £30.00 for the service.

Best Wishes, Romilly.

Hi Von,

I come from Chapel-en-le-Frith - 6 miles out of Buxton.  99% of all the people in that area read the local paper 'The Buxton Advertiser'.  Why not put an advert in there and see what happens?  The paper is online at www.buxtonadvertiser.co.uk

Hi Von,

This looks as if it could be the reg. data for your parents' marriage:

Albert D Timmins spouse Grindey (note sp), Dec q 1949, Chapel-le-F, 10a/1470.

There is a suggestion on another posting that Chapel-le-F refers to Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire, just north of Buxton, Derbyshire.

Vanda's suggestion is looking good!

Anyway, if you send away for this certificate it will give you the names of parents, ages etc and get you started on the Timmins family.

Cheers,

Ros

Hi Von,

Interesting to read your full name. I thought mmm, perhaps they called you Veronica because they liked the name, Jean after your Mum, and Daisy after someone on his side of the family.

Sure enough, there in the 1901 census is a Daisy Timmins living at 6 Stables (?) St, Derby, Derbyshire:

Mary Timmins, 33, head, mar, b Ireland
Walter J, 8, Kent
Daisy M., 7, Kent
John, 4, Derby
Benjamin, 2, Derby.

Just a hunch - dreadfully unscientific - but I'd be very interested to know if your grandfather turns out to be either Walter, Benjamin or John!

Don't forget to let us know how you get on!

Cheers,

Ros

Hi Von

You could try the website http://www.b4usearch.com/ if you click on the yellow word 'people' and enter his name in every combination you think he might be using. You also have to put a county,so be methodical and work your way though them all. It will take some time, but what else do you have to lose?

Alternately what address did you last have a definite siting of him? You might be able to get someone to look up the electoral rolls or local phone books from back then to a more recent time.Usually available at the local library.

Do you know if he remarried(I presume he is no longer married to your mum?)
He will obviously be easier to pin down if you know who he might be living with.

And my last option is Friends Reunited. http://www.friendsreunited.co.uk/

Good luck

Carol

PS I missed the 2nd page of this  :-[ so sorry if any of the questions are not relevant but some ideas here in any case.  ;D

Hi Von,

Just to add to Carol's post, - I managed to trace a cousin by requesting a Look-up (on here) on the UK InfoDisc. A kind person on here who had a copy looked them up for me.

Good Luck!

Romilly,

I've tried that and he's not on there!!  ::)

Well not as Albert D Timmins-his 'official' name.

Hence the question does Von have any idea who he lives with.

I think a smart move might be to buy a copy of the parents marriage cert-it'll confirm and address and give his fathers name.

Maybe we can then trace him through his fathers death.

By the way Von my hubby was born 16 Aug 1950. ;D

I know my Mother grew up in Sunny fields Buxton and my Dad lived right next door, seems they were child hood sweethearts.

My Mothers Brother still lives in the family home there,a t.v. station went to visit this Uncle a few years ago but he said he didnt know where my Father was.

How do i go about getting a copy of my parents marriage licence?

As i mentioned i now live in the U.S.A.
Do you have an address where i get the certificate from?

Thank you for all the help you are giving me.

Von

I presume you were an only child........when did you last see your father?

Where was he living then?

It may sound like a strange question, but we need to establish where he last was,if we are to look for a further marriage .........or sorry to say this, but you also have to prepare yourself for the fact that he may have died.

Easy enough for one of us to look through a few marriages on Ancestry.com
Now they're free of course  ;)

http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8965

Please be aware that the GRO is a bit behind with sending out certs.we have had a very succesful television series called Who do you think you are, which has prompted loads of people to start tracing family members.

Carol

Hi Carole, sorry i didnt post earlier.

Im not sure where my paprent were living, but it was somewhere in Buxton, from what i can gather my Mother left my Father and moved to Shrewsbury, she left me behind in Buxton in a childrens home.

I did hear that the last time anyone saw my Father was when he went to Buxton for his Fathers funarel in 1969 i believe,no one has seen him since.
He is probably dead by now,but it would be interesting to see if he ever remarried and had more children.By the way,my Mother died in the May of 2000.

There are two people called Timmins living in Buxton. If you look on 192.com ,it will give you the address' of them ,as well as the telephone numbers.

It may be worth a go ,at the very worst ,they won't know anything. But it is not a common name and they may be able to help.

Hope this helps as I have a cousin in the same situation who would dearly love to find out about her father ,but sadly it is not to be .

Wishing you good luck

Hello Von

Seems you are correct, your parents did indeed have another baby.

Donald L Timmins mothers maiden name Grindey, was born in Stockport(Cheshire) in Sept 1952 ref number 10a page 729.

There is a person of that name on the 2003 infodisk. However using one of the more recent directories does not find him.

I am going to PM you with the address I've found, and its up to you if you want to take the slight chance that...

A, It's the right person
B, If he's no longer there, someone knows where he went to.

Going to look for your grandad's death info now.Glad we know what his name is........didn't realise you had another thread going alongside(Thanks Berlin Bob  ;D)

All the best

Hi Carol,i think that info is wrong,my brother Donald was born (*) though.
Unless my Mother was lieing, which she did alot of to hide her past.

I did hear that my Father was always in trouble with the law and i seem to remember someone saying he went to prison, again not sure if this is true.

I dont know what prison,as im sure they would have records.

Thanks.

Von,

Your grandfather Albert Percy Timmins who was born on 7 Nov 1900,died in Stockport in the SEpt 1/4 of 1970. Ref is Volume 10a page 1400.

You could get the cert and find out if he left a will-by writing to the

Principal Probate Registry
LONDON  Probate Department
Principal Registry of the Family Division
First Avenue House
42-49, High Holborn
London WC1V 6NP
Tel: 020 7947 6939/6043/7431/7414/6946
Email : maria.boulby[AT]hmcourts-service.gsi.gov.uk

Maybe your dad's name was mentioned as informant or perhaps grandchildrens names if they were beneficiaries.

The most up to date address we can find him at for definite the better.

I'm sorry to say but I think I've found his death.

Don't forget it's those who are left who give the info-which may not always be spot on.They may not have known the exact DOB or the person may have tried to pretend they were younger than they really were.

Albert Donald TIMMINS died in the March 1/4 of 1980 in Cambridge.
His DOB has been given as 18th Dec 1930......and the ref for the death cert is
Volume 9 page 0622

The death cert will usually give you a family members name ie wife or child.

If you wished to apply for the cert, and managed to get a name and address from 1980,please post again and I'll seeif I can find any family members.

Hope this helps in your search for the truth ,even if it's not from the person you had hoped to hear it from.

I don't know how you've progressed with your search, but I decided to take a sideways look (always best) and found that your father had a brother Alfred B Timmins born September qtr 1922 (checked births from 1920 to 1928). Looking forward to hearing from both of you.  Fingers crossed.

Hi Clare,

I am still not 100% sure on Charles parents but what I DO know is that he is a distant relation of mine.

Charles is living with his Aunt in 1911 and she is my great great grandfathers half sister. My Hunch is that charles is the son of Charles Grindey and Mary Jane Riddle but have no proof of this. (Charles is also a half brother of my great great grandfather). Charles junior (b. 1902) had a brother John Owen Grindey and a sister Margaret Annie Grindey.  (If I have the correct parents)

Please get in touch and let me know what you know about this family would love to know more and if we have the right connection I can fill you in with all I have on this line of Grindey's

Look forward to hearing from you

Angela
