Hi all,
Can anyone look for John Stephenson in the 1851 census.
He was born in Easington 1822, and lived in Easington in 1861 with his wife Mary...I think he may have been married before so need to ascertain it.
Thanks my hunnys,
Colleen

Hi Colleen,
John & Hannah Stephenson are in my family tree.
John married Hannah (nee Siddle) on 2 Feb 1845 at Easington.
John's father was Joseph Stephenson, butcher.
Do you have details of the first marriage of John's second wife, Mary?
Regards, Mim

Hi Mim,
Not at the moment I am afraid, I only discovered them yesterday.
John Newby Stephenson was my great grandfather, my fathers grandfather.
His dad was william and williams dad was John..or he was possibly his stepfather!!
You dont happen to know who Polly Lowther is the child of do you?
Polly married John newby Stephenson but I can not find her birth anywhere!!!
What relation to us stephensons are you?

Hi
John Stephensons 2nd wife Mary URWIN was previously married to Thomas STEPHENSON b c1813 Easington, they had 5 children as far as I can figure out.
Thomas was previously married to a Jane SIDDLE b 1818 Easington. They had 3 children, Thomas b1837, John Shotton b 1840 and Jane bor and died1842 . His wife Jane also died at about the same time then he married Mary on 4 Mar 1844. Thomas died in Apr 1857 and then Mary married John Stephenson in 1st Qtr 1861.
This has been an absolute nightmare to sort out but with many baptism, marriage and death records from Durham Records Online I think (unless you know different LOL) I have sorted it.
My main interest is in John Shotton Stephenson.
As far as I know Mary URWIN did not have any children with John Stephenson and the identies as Step/Natural children have got slightly mixed up on the census.
BTW Hannah Siddles father was called Thomas Siddle b1791 Chopwell, died 1856 in Easington. Jane Siddles mother was called Hannah so I suspect that Jane and Hannah were sister and Thomas and Hannah were the parents although I havent managed to connect them up yet.

The name Urwin has just caught my attention. I have Urwins in my tree - am I right in thinking the "U" wasn't a particularly common spelling? Do you know where Mary came from? If it's the Gateshead or Birtley area, there may be a connection.
