Hi there,
Does anyone have this resource? I am interested to know if the RICE family owned property on High Street at that time.
At some point they did acquire this land ... but it would be interesting to know when they became "landowners" ... since this would be the only branch of the family that DID own land :D
Thanks for any help

A John Rice of Kilbourne owned just over 2 acres according to the return of 1873, but it does not say where this land was.
Anyone who owned one acre or more is listed on the return, but if they owned less than this, they are not named.

Thanks Nell,
Now ... when you say "John Rice of Kilbourne" ... is Kilbourne the name of a house?
Certainly there was a John Rice in the family at that time ... but the designation "of Kilbourne" eludes me. ???
Sorry if this is a "dumb" question ... but being Canadian I'm not always familiar with these things. :)
I do appreciate the lookup however ... thanks.

Kilbourne is in the "Address of owner" column. Nothing shows up as a place with that name when I search on streetmap.
Your guess is as good as mine :-\

Hi again Nell,
Actually, I did a google on Kilbourne ... and it would appear that it was or is a street in Belper ... which is a bit too far away for it to be my RICE family in Measham. At least ... that's my thinking at this point.
Thanks for taking the time to look this up for me!

Kilbourne- Kilburn is a village nr Horsley and Belper.
My families Yeomans and Shaw came from there and moved to Horsley.
Enquire of Derbyshire County whose HQ is at Matlock where archives should be available.

Thanks Gerald.
I don't think this fellow is related to my RICE family ... however, I'm keeping the information ... just in case!
