Worth a try perhaps---does anyone here have any knowledge of a Dr. Morris or a Dr. Batty who i believe lived in Lodge nr. Brymbo?
My mother's cousin Lilian married a Dr.Morris [no first name] in 1916.
I have a photo of the wedding party taken at 'Myfanwy cottage' Lodge.
Dr. Batty was among the guest names written on the back of the photo.
Here's hoping, Poli :)

Re: Is there a Doctor in the house?
I'm adding some more to the above post as i'm still hoping!!
This cousin Lilian and Dr.Morris had a son named Edmund. Well i presume he's the son of Dr. Morris as Lilian was married to him
I've spent nearly all day trying to find any trace of the 3 of them and have drawn a blank. I actually have another photo in front of me as i type--an auntie Kate, Lilian and Edmund . The boy looks to be about 4-6 yrs. Lilian married in 1916 in Lodge, so presumably this pic was taken around the early 20s
Kate was my Taid's sister but on all the info i scratch up about Taid it mentions a sister Catherine c1866 perhaps she was just known as Kate as i can't find a Kate on any census with John Hughes 1869 [Taid.]
I've searched all the usual avenues i've learnt about on Rootschat but cant unearth them anywhere. They are proving to be the proverbial pain in the you know what ::)

Hi Polidor
I have done a little snooping and I have found three sets of John & Catherine
together in households. If you could tell me John's parents names, I could do a better check. No point sending useless information.

Alicebob, thanks for your interest but you could regret it!
"I'e found them on the 1901, living Leeswood. John was born in
Liverpool (Bootle). He was a labourer. Before that he was at Derwen as a horseman. I've traced him back to the 1871, when the family had moved back to Denbs - Derwen. His parents were Hugh Hughes, b.c. 1823, Llangwm and Elizabeth, b.c. 1834, Llanfyhangel. They had David(1862); Mary (1864), Catherine and Margaret(1866), John (1969), Hugh (1873) and Elizabeth (1876). Hugh was an Ag lab."
The above was found for me by Gadget and appears to be solid.
I have a photo of a cousin Lilian marrying a Dr. Morris in 1916. Fact, [my mum is sitting in the front row aged 10.
I have yet another photo with the words Taid's sister Kate written on it.
I also have a photo of an Auntie Kate, Lilian & Edmund[These words written on the back] presumably Mother, daughter & grandson.Fact.
I thought i would follow a Lillian Morris and husband the good Dr. and Edmund and any extra kids in the censuses and have drawn a complete blank.
Is Kate, Catherine? Catherine had, apparently,
a twin, Margaret who i can only find once aged 5 in the 1871 census then only Catherine appears in the 1881 census.
Kate,Lilian Dr. Morris and Edmund are driving me potty, i've become fixated on them ???

Hi Poli
Just popped in :)
If you could locate Edmund's birth cert, you might find more on his father. have you got a rough idea?
I expect Catherine and Kate are one and the same person.
Gadget - popping off again ;D

At last a result, finally, on the trail of Dr Morris.
First of all i tracked down son Edmund and found him b1923 and then hunted for the marriage of his parents --my mother's cousin Lilian and Dr. Morris eventually found married 1921 [not 1916 as written on photo!!!] registration district Wrexham.
So presumably if i send for the marriage cert i'll find Dr. Morris's christian name and his father. A rather pleased Poli ;D

Very pleased for you Poli. It's amazing what a high we get when we find some facts about them - mad we are - but it's a great feeling. And why do they only give us partial clues - and wrong 'uns ::) ::) ::)

Another update.
The marriage cert for Lillian and Dr. Morris gives his Christian names as Joseph William. It also states that Lillian was resident at Myfanwy Cottage Lodge at the time of the wedding.
Couple more pieces in the jigsaw. Poli

Glad you're getting there Poli - what did it say about Dr Joseph Morris's father?

Hi Gadget, his father has the same Christian names [why am i not surprised!!] and was down as a Slate quarryman.
I assume Dr. Morris must have had a good education to get where he did. He didn't marry until he was 29 and Lillian was 28. .
I'd reached a really sticky patch with my Welsh lot and popped over to England to my father's side of the family and i've come across one individual who seems to claim birth rights in both Ireland and Scotland. Never mind that most of the rest of his family come from Bedfordshire. Oh isn't this all fun ::) ::)
-
A product of the superior Welsh education system no doubt ;D
I noticed your quandry with the Irish/Scottish birth on the 1841. Is it possible to scan the little bit of the census page that gives the questionable place/country and put it up on the thread you've started on the Irish board. Then we can all have a look. ;D

Hi again Gadget, I've tried dozens of times to lift bits of census sheets on to Rootschat but just cannot manage it except just one time when it worked but to be honest with you i cant remember how i did it :-[ :-[I've tried copy and paste, I've tried 'save' and then copy and paste but i keep getting a message saying that my pc security system wont let me do that!!!
-
Have you got the census page saved to your computer?
I'll PM you and maybe you could send me the page by e-mail to have a look at/select from and then you can put it up.

This is rather late But i have just stumbled on this web site but to answer your enquiry I am the only grandchild of Lilian and Joseph Morris who were married at my great grandparents house, Myfanwy Cottage, Nant Road, Lodge. Can I help you? I would be very interested in contacting you as you mention you are my Nains second cousin and her mother was a Hughes. My Taid came from Blaenau. My great grandfather worked at the steelworks and came from Holywell.
-
As a matter of interest the education of my Grandfather and his brothers was a great sacrifice to his family. He trained in Scotland with distinction in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Hi I have just found this post.
I think I may be about ten years late - but would love to make contact with polidor as the photo that you refer to is indeed my Nain and Taids wedding day.
It did not take place in 1916 as you have stated.
My Taid was Doctor Joseph William Morris from Blaenau Ffestiniog he is accompanied by his brothers John Morris , H M I and William Morris , Reverend and archdruid. My Nain was Lilian Barker, daughter of Kate and John Barker and she is accompanied by her sister Mabel Barker.
I would love to know more of your connection with the family - who was my Nains cousin - I had only met one and she lived in Wrexham.
I really to hope to hear from you
