They were mrrd in 1840 in Shelton
The mrrge certificate confirms Joshua's father as John Shaw

Hi Emma
Do you have any other information about your George, You say he was a Pottery warehoseman. Did he live in the Potteries (Stoke-on-Trent area)
Looking forward to hearing from you

yes my gt. gt. Grandfather George Shaw born 1803 in Bradfield (nr Sheffield) lived with that family in Wath on Dearne/Swinton around the 1830s, he met and married Arabella Butler through the Shaws of Wath/Swinton and returned to the Bradfield/Sheffield area in 1851.
The family in Swinton/Wath were mostly weavers but some also potters at the Rockingham Pottery there, I know that Hannah is shown as being born in Stoke, I have some other info on the family, they all originate from the Bradfield (nr Sheffield area and Penistone from the eartly 1600s and are still there as a family

Hello mrbee,
My George Shaw was born and lived in Swinton, Yorkshire, and then in West Melton which is only a few miles away. He worked at Rockingham Pottery, Swinton. His father was Thomas Shaw, b. 1825 at Bolton-upon-Dearne, Yorkshire (again just a few miles away from Swinton). Thomas was a Weaver.
Do you know who the parents were of your John Shaw? Many of the Christian names you have on the census, occur in my lines of Shaw's and there is a John in almost every generation.
Regards

Hi
John Shaw is the son of Joshua Shaw christened 7th August 1764 Independent Masbough Yorkshire who married Lucy Eastwood 11th December 1797 Swinton, Wath Upon Dearne Parish West Riding Yorkshire.
Their children are John Shaw’s (b 1799) brother Ebenezer b 1804 and also a sister Hannah b circa 1810
John married Hannah Bennett 13 Nov 1821 St. Margaret Parish, Wath-Upon-Dearne, Swinton, Yorkshire
Ebenezer married Ann Dey circa1833
I have not found any information on Hannah to date
Joshua is the son of John and Ann Shaw (Shay) who also had four daughters Anna, Martha, Rhoda, and Sarah

I have come across the info pasted below which may help as I searched William Oliver. I understood an Elizabeth (Oliver) might reside here and found a marriage 1824 I think (sorry, my browser crashes when I flit from tab to tab) for an Elizabeth Oliver and Thomas Shaw. William's grandson George (b circa 1842) was a packer and there were other transferers and potters' assistants whatever. It was however a common trade around Rawmarsh/Swinton/Kilnhurst. But just maybe one of our families has a piece of info that can decide one way or the other. I know a (newly found) relative of mine has searched this long and hard and we have both arrived at similar ancestors via different dates (slightly).
All the best:}
