I have been told my great grandfather and mother were arrested in the period above. My family finds this a bit disturbing and since it was a third party who told them we have a suspicion that it may be a frabrication. Could anyone tell me if there are arrest records still available in Manchester for that period?

Hi,
Have you tried searching www.a2a.org.uk ? If they were prosecuted you may just find a reference.

I hope I'm wrong but I asked about records at M/cr Police museum, and they said it would have to be a pretty spectacular crime for records to be kept.I told them my Gt Grandad had attacked his wife and smashed her head with an axe, they said that happened quite a lot!!!
I hope you have better luck! :)
