I'm looking for any CANHAMs , born in or around Occold in 1860s. My Ggrandmother was Ruth Hannah, her Father was a Baptist Minister.
Any help would be appreciated.

Geoff,
Thank you! It looks like Ruth is the right one. I wonder if the others are related to her. I have no information about her family at all, since she was estranged from them. My mother lived with her until Ruth's death, and she never mentioned any family at all.
Again, thank you very much, I really appreciate your help.

:-* Thank you so much! I haven't been looking for a while, but this will get me started again.
Do you know if the 1871 census has been done?
Again, thank you. I hope one of these turns out to be the one I need.

If u place a lookup on census lookups for suffolk im sure u will get and answer very quickly. I dont have it and my 1861 isnt indexed so takes so long to look through parishes. They were all I could c in Occold. All the best with your research.

Thanks, Kris, I'll do that.

I found Ruth on the 1871 census, and these are her parents. So the Ezekiel and John on the 1881 are probably these two. Thank you so much for breaking that brick wall for me!
I wonder why Ruth said he was a minister? I'll just have to keep checking.

Perhaps your ancestor was a Lay Preacher, my grandfather was a Lay Preacher but in the census his occupation was given as an Ironfounder, that being his full time occupation.
-
That seems to be the most likely solution. Thank you all for your help. I can now come forward, and maybe figure out why nobody spoke.

Just posting a follow-up. IF Ruth was Canham, then Joseph and Ann are her grandparents, and John and Hannah are her parents.
Problem: 8 children. On 4 certs Mum is Ruth CANHAM, on the other 4 she is Ruth CANNON! I think, from other information, that the Canham is right, but my cousin insists the Cannon is correct.
I love this job! ;D
