Hi Caroline
If you type
Genuki Aston (or Walsall)
into a search engine it will give you a description of the registration districts. They are in different counties historically. In order to find exactly where the events took place you need either the certificate or some other reference, such as an extracted IGI record.
Hope this helps
kind regards, Arranroots ;)

Hi Arranroots, i'll give it a try

This is the Genuki "brief" for Walsall Registration District
Walsall
Created 1st July 1837.
Sub-districts : Aldridge; Bloxwich; Darlaston; Walsall.
GRO volumes : XVII (1837-51); 6b (1852-1930).
Aldridge, Bentley, Darlaston, Great Barr, Pelsall, Rushall, Walsall, Walsall Wood.
Registers now in Walsall district.
it helps to find out what areas each district covered, because if for example you have a family living in Bloxwich in the census, then from the above info you know that the most likely Reg District is Walsall.
or thats what I use the information for, especially in the London Boroughs, it helps narrow the field when you are trying to tie up the GRO index reference
(as you seem to be ?)
hope that helps a bit,
Newbie

Thanks Newbie, im still trying to see if these two places are near to each other, i can get them up individually and they seem to be nowhere near each other....ha ha ha, or i can get them together, but in a couple of different areas, both are in Warwickshire & Staffordshire.
CAZ, having another slow day.. ???

Hi Caz,
Don't want to lead you up the garden path ::) I thought the volume number gave the registration district area. I have ordered a number of certs from Aston Birmingham and the vol. is always 6d Aston. ???
Susan :)
-
Hi Susan, then i'll go along with you for Aston then, i know that every time i order certs for Devon area, the Vol number is always 5b.
Just got to sort out where Walsall 6b is.........

Volume number for The West Midlands - XVI and 6d covering :
Warwick, Aston, Birmingham, Rugby, Stratford, Coventry and Alcester.
Think that should answer your question ;)
Susan
ps Newbie has given the details for Walsall areas covered by 6b
-
Hi Susan, yeah i just re-read Newbies reply.
Aston is 6 miles away from Walsall, just double checked on Genuki.
So now this sorted, they are mine for definate then.
Thank you everyone for your help.
CAZ ;D

me again,
Walsall 6b is the reference for the volume in the district I gave you the information for from Genuki
GRO volumes : XVII (1837-51); 6b (1852-1930).
does that help,
from memory when my son was at Warwick Univ. Birmingham is not too far away I think ?? ???
Newbie
oh doh! I didn't scroll down, just answered the post further up, didn't see the later replies until I posted the above, well thats it all sorted then.

Glad you got that sorted, pity I didn't spot it sooner - all my husband's great grandparents come from Aston, Walsall and Birmingham so I've become a bit of an expert in the geography! Oh I forgot the lot that come from Tamworth which is mostly in Staffordshire but is often referred to in Warwickshire :-\ :-\
-
Just like to say a very BIG thank you to you all ;D

Aston used to be bigger than Birmingham but Birmingham gradually absorbed it and it became an inner city surburb of Birmingham (as in Aston Villa football team, Aston university, Aston expressway leading to Spaghetti Junction). It is a deprived inner city area.
Birmingham borders onto the Black country, the industrialised south of Staffordshire, so you might find civil events in Birmingham, Aston, Walsall and West Bromwich from the same family because basically these registration districts are all bordering each other.

Hi Valda, thank you for explaining the boundaries etc, for some reason staffordshire just sounded like it was a bit further away than it actually was.
