I have been called to task for copyright violation previously so I have become sensitized to the overreaching of the board in their effort to avoid copyright infringement accusations. Today I made a post and as part of that post I tried to paste a sentence that had absolutely NOTHING to do with copyright issues. The system would not permit to paste it or anything else. Since when is pasting anything prima facea evidence of copyright violation?? No LOL on this, it is an involvement that is not warranted and certainly not desired. At some point accumulating hassles make limited usefullness of a site not worth the bother.

Well, pasting by virtue of it being preceded by "copying" could very well encourage copyright violation.

Copyright violation being a serious risk to the future of Rootschat and therefore not tolerated.

We appreciate everybodies support on this matter.  If it was possible to build a system that could judge whether a pasted item was lifted from a protected work as opposed to innocent text I'm sure it would be a very popular export and make us all millionaires  ;D

Disallowing ALL pasting of anything copied on fear of infringment has very little if any virtue.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion but a number of years of experience has shown this feature has reduced copyright infringements.

Until an intelligent system is built that can second guess what you are about to paste it is here to stay.

There are numerous threads on the subject of copyright I do not see the value in creating another detailed debate, therefore this thread has been locked.

Pam
