I am tring to trackdown a Thomas MARTIN & family on the 1851 Census. In both 1841 & 1861 he is in Forfar but despite my best efforts on Scotland's People I,m unable to track him down. The information below may help.

Hi,
I have Ferriers in Angus, oldest from Muirside of Kinnell, but also Inverkeillor, Kirkden & Froickheim. Common names are William, Alexander, Elisabeth, Margaret & Isabel(la).
Generations of dykers/stonemasons...
Lots on my website when it's up and running again?
Think there may be a link? :-\

Hi wildgoose
Just browsing through and the name Fenton caught my eye.
I have a Jane Fenton b. 1858 in my line - I'm sorry I don't have much more info right this minute as I'm at work, but if you'd like more please do let me know. She married William Balharry and I believe had 12 children (this is from memory, again I have all the records at home), some of whom were given Fenton as a middle name.
I'd be glad to give you any info you want.

I don't know about anyone else, but as a mother, I can sympathise with these women and I don't know how on earth they coped having so many children!!
I have them on the 1871 and 1881 census, at Ingliston Smithy, Kinnettles, Angus - both William and Jane are recorded as Blacksmiths. In the 1891 census, William is recorded as a Spirit Dealer and the family is back living in Forfar proper.
Anyhow, I'm sure that's more than enough and maybe not of particular interest to you, but I hope it helps you expand your Fentons!

While I'm on the subject, I also have a Ferrier in my line!!
Ann Ferrier
born c.1813
Daughter of John Ferrier and Margaret Anderson
married John Balharrie in Kinettles, Forfarshire 23rd November 1834
John Balharrie (my great, great, great grandfather) and Ann Ferrier were the parents of William Balharry (my great, great grandfather) who married Jane Fenton as per my previous post!!
If you want more info on the other kids of John Balharrie and Ann Ferrier let me know, I don't want to throw a ton of info at you that you don't want!

I have a Jessie Ferrier in my family born in Longforgan, Perthshire in abt 1833 and later lived in Abroath and Dundee, she seemed to be a bit loose as she had 5 children by three different fathers then went on to marry someone completly different! Her childrens surnames were Cruikshanks, Smart and Gibson although they are sometimes found with their mothers surname too! Don't know if anybody knows anything about these? Thanks ;D
