Title: Earliest census available for Sussex?

Can anyone tell me what is the earliest year the census is available for Sussex? I have seen 1831 talked about elsewhere!!

Welcome to rootschat.  On the whole the census records before 1841 do not have much detail but there are some for 1831 for Sussex that do - it depends on the area though.    If you look at the Sussex family History group website they may have some transcripts.   www.sfhg.org.uk   I am sure someone else will know exactly what is available but it might help if you say where you want to look.
There is an Eastbourne FHS too so they may have a transcript of baptisms which will help with your other post.   Otherwise you may be able to get the film of the parish to search at your nearest LDS centre.   They are worldwide and listed on familysearch.org

Hi Chilljoan

If you give us more information on the area, then I will be able to inform you if a census has survived prior to 1841.

e.g - Ticehurst has both the 1801 and 1811 details, Hailsham has the 1831, so does Hastings.

The parishes made copies of the census and stored them in the parish chest.

My Funnells were based around  Chiddingly, Wilmington & Hailsham mainly. I am looking for any Isaac Funnell/Funnel in particular.

Hi there

The 1821 census for Chiddingly still survives and there are over 100 Funnells listed - but not one called Isaac.

The 1821 for Hailsham still survives - but no Funnell surname appears in it.

The 1831 for Hailsham still survives - but again no Funnell surnames appear

Was there any other names beside Isaac that you were interested in?, and have you got any Funnells from the 1841 for Hailsham, Chiddingly or Willmington as I have the CD's if you have not

I have Isaac in Hailsham in 1841. However, he may have been in Heathfield or Wilmington prior to that.

I am also looking for John Funnell (b. 1811 approx) & James Funnell (b. 1815 approx) his sons.

I am desperate to find John's baptism too (In Eastbourne). He was the only one baptised there, all the rest were Chiddingly or Wilmington.
Will the LDS request the Baptisms for Eastbourne if I ask them, or are they not available to view do you know?
