Hiya, Can someone tell me what District you'd be registered in for Wakefield circa 1840
Thanks,Andrea
I must have been having a 'blonde' moment,I re-did my search and Wakefield came up!!
Just in case though-are there any areas of Wakefield that might have come under a different district?

Wakefield is a district

I thought it was,but I'd put in a search for a William Smith's marriage on free bmd, expecting Wakefield to come up,there were tons of William Smiths, but no Wakefield. :-\
So I thought I'd check with the experts in West Yorkshire :)
I went back + I expanded it by a quarter and got one!!!!

If you do start looking at parish registers. In Wakefield in 1840 there were two parishes
Cathedral
St John
Only Cathedral would appear to be in the IGI. luckily up to 1846. I don't know how complete this will be.
Sandall Magna was a parish in 1840 but I don't think Agbrigg was.

Thanks for that! I did eventually find the marriage,it was before 1837 at Sandal Magna and it was on the IGI.
I've not been over to Wakefield to look at it yet though, but I will do!!
