I am trying to find how my gggrandfather came to Australia. Unsure if a convict or not.
Michael McGrath born Shallee/Newport Tipperary 1821
Married Sarah Cosgrove 1852 in Melbourne 1852
Apparently had a hotel in high Street Sandhurst/Bendigo
He also went to New Zealand about 1860's. Anyone able to help me here?

Hi Ashazoe
There is a Michael McGRATH who arrived Jun 1841 as an assisted passenger on the 'Duchess of Northumberland'
There are 2 references age given as 18 & 19.
I'm going to the library tomorrow will check the passenger list for you.
Cheers

Hi ,
Not sure whether the offspring of Sarah and Michael and Eliza and William (per your other thread) are of interest or you already have. I do not have access to full deatails, but others do. However, it looks as if there are at least 3 birth entries for Sarah and Michael between 1852 and 1872 and one seems to be in Bendigo.
William Frewen and ELIZABETH (nee Cosgrove) also have 3 Victorian births.
