Can any please help me. Am still looking for Edward born approximately 1775. He had 3 sons as far as I know: Edward, Joseph and Samuel. 2 born in Northampton and Joseph born in Banbury.
Have now been looking for over 12 months.
I know he died in Christchurch in Oldbury in approx. 1850.
He moved his family over to Worcester where all of them were boat builders.

Could there be a canal connection here? The stretch of the Oxford Canal which runs through Banbury down to Oxford was built around 1790.

There is a museum in Banbury now which has a big display about the canal, and of course there is still a boat yard - Tooleys - which is right next to the museum.

There is also a listing for a William Shellard, boat builder at Torbay Dock in Oldbury in 1841 (Birmingham way) - Pigot's & Co.
Some relation perhaps?

If you have a look on http://www.historicaldirectories.org/, which is a free site, you'll find the listing I did.
It's an unusual name, which helps!
