I have traced Thomas Brocklehurst marriage to Elizabeth West which took place on 21.6.1874. He is shown as 25 and Elizabeth as 19. Thomas's occupation is given as fireman and his father's name as William, a weaver.
The marriage took place at Prestbury and was witnessed by Wm and Sarah Brocklehurst.
My problem is I can't find any other trace of Thomas, not his birth or any showing on the census after the marriage.
By 1881 Elizabeth is back with her parents ( Josesph West) at 2 Fowler Street Macclesfield with her two children and is shown as married not a widow.
thanks

Have any more kids turned up by 1891?
That MAY indicate whether she was a wife/widow at 1881 rather more accurately.

no, and Elizabeth has disappeared by then too. The two daughters are still living with their grandparents Joseph and Alice West on Hurdsfield Macclesfield

It's GRO index time then.
You need to check for a
Death of Thomas (before 1881)
Death of Elizabeth/Re-Marriage of Elizabeth. After 1881 & before 1891.
Try freebmd on ancestry first, more in hope than expectation though.

Have you find him on the census before his marriage.
I ask because on the 1881 there is a Thomas Brocklehurst, married and from Macclesfield in prison. The age is a few years out - but I wonder if it might be worth investigating?
You might have looked at this one, but if you want the ref. let me know

Just found this one via ancestry.
Don't think it is my Thomas Brocklehurst (thank goodness :) ) six years older and a weaver. The one I am looking for was a fireman.
thanks for help
