Title: Handyside, Coldstream 1851
Post by: Sarah Stone on Tuesday 07 March 06 23:03 GMT (UK)
Have just found what I think is my ancestor in Coldstream in the 51 census. He is William HANDYSIDE  age 23 gardner journeyman born midlothian. That all fits  but I can't read the address. Can anybody help. It looks like "the Hirsel"??. He is obviousluy heading south. Born Edinburgh , '51 Coldstream, '57married Newcastle on Tyne.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

The Hirsel in Coldstream is the house and estate of the Earls of Home, so it is quite likely that William Handyside would be employed there as a gardener.
