I have just been looking at 1851 census :-
Northamptonshire , Eydon , District 11 - description of enumeration district ....H.0 107/1735 .
Made me jump !!!
Pity he didn't put as much effort into his description.!!
I dont know if its allowed but if someone whats to copy it into the posting would save folks looking it up .
Cant say as i have ever come across a doodling before :)

Thanks al :)
I dont really know what to think of it but i would imagine that would be how an 'educated' person would look at around that time with the high hat .
Could be himself , or someone he has seen on his rounds or he has let someone have a sketch .
The artist could of at least signed it !!
An interesting little find though :)
Any thoughts anyone ?

my thoughts are, its a pity all enumerators did'nt have to draw all of the persons in each household, how lovely would that be,
kali.

I agree with you kali ..... ;D
Don't suppose there are may finds like that hidden the census documents!
-
as you well know chui, thier writing had something to be desired never mind drawing.
-
That's so cool! I've never come across anything even remotely that interesting. Usually, like Kali, I wonder if the enumerator could even write, let alone draw ;D
-
This one must have got bored I suppose! ;)
-
That is so wickedly wonderful......I don't for a minute think who ever did it expected that 155 years later it would be the topic of conversation on the WWW !!
It's not bad as doodles go either :D thanks for sharing it Tracey

:) it is isnt it ,
I have gone a bit miss marple over it and was looking around the same district for the same enumerator ... same handwriting in a fair few districts around the area ( hoped i would find another doodle) and i did find one with a signature on the bottom .
That was breakfast time and i cant just remember which one it was ..... i couldnt read it but was the same handwriting in a place very close .
