Wilfred 1898 Rochford (Worcs)
Beatrice 1900 Rochford (worcs)
Charles 1901 Bishops Frome

I have looked at the records in bothe Herefordshire and Worcestershire record offices and online but no success. any help would be wonderful

Hi
You don't give months of birth but the only possible gap seems to be between 95 and 98. Poor mother - she must have had an awful time with all those kids! Have you searched parish records or just Birth registers? There are so many possibilities for mis-spelling with an unusual name like Wanklyn.

The other possibility is 1907/8/9/, or that one of the ones you have listed is a twin, but the twin died at birth or soon after.
I started looking through the indexes for 1907, and there are several Wanklyn's in each quarter. What registration district is likely? I tried looking back for Florence in 1906 to see what her registration district was, but the only Florence was a Florence Gertrude in Coventry, which I guessed was not the right area. If, however, this is your Florence, there is an Elizabeth with the same reference, who could be a twin.
Have you actually found the birth registrations of the 16 yohave got? If not I would start there, and you may find you find an extra one when goingf through.
-
I suppose the other possibility is the imponderable - that the fertile Mrs W had another child before they were married and that it was registered in her maiden name.
Sorry to cast nasturtiums...
;D

Got a bit further-
I found Henry Arthurs death in 1906, that was in Bromsgrove registration district.
In 1907 , J/A/S quarter, there is the birth of a 'male' in Bromsgrove district, and also the death of a 'male' in the same quarter, same district.
This looks a likely candidate for your missing child, if it is him the poor little chap was never even given a name.

Help I am going mad!
Camcel what i just said - I couldnt read my own writing!
Henry Arthur's death was in Bromyard, not Bromsgrove! So the baby boy I found is unlikely to be the right one after all!
There is a birth reg of a Florence in J/F/M 1907 in Bromsyard. This will be the Florence that you have down as born in 1906 (must be end of the year, and registered beginning of next year)
I'll try 1908 and 1909 now for more babies registered in Bromsyard before Douglas in 1910
-
OK,
Douglas Milward Wanklyn is registerd in Hereford district in A/M/J 1910, so they have moved by then.
There are no Wanklyn babies reg in either Bromyard or Hereford from Dec 1907 through to Mar 1910
Unless they moved somewhere else during these years, your missing babe is not in this gap.
Next I'll try the 1895-98 gap that was suggested, and is just as likely (but I went for the more recent one first as the records tend to be easier to read!!)
-
Albert is registered in O/N/D 1895 in Ledbury district
Wilfred Christopher is J/F/M 1898 in Tenbury district
That narrows the gap a bit!
There are no Wanklyn's from O/N/D 1896 to O/N/D 1897 in either of these areas.
Again, either they moved somewhere else in these years, or your missing babe is not in this gap either.
They seem to move a lot - are you SURE all 17 are the same family????!!
I suggest that next you do go through year by year and find the registration of each child, and look for a possible twin that did not survive. This can be done for free on Ancestry, though the indexing is sometimes off and you have to use some imagination (I found, on one quarter I had to key in Walton and then scroll on to Wanklyn, for example)
Will be interested to hear if you find him/her eventually, but I must go. People tell me there are other things to do in life other than Rootschat!

Thank you all for your help. My Nan always told us that her mother had 17 children - all single births! Granny Wanklyn lived to be 91 years old and was considered as the local unofficial midwife ;D
As the family were agricutural labourers they moved around Herefordshire with work and seem to live anywhere from Mundersfield right up to Tenbury in Worcs.
Thaks again - I will keep searching for the elusive Wankln babe.
Cheers

They seem to move a lot - are you SURE all 17 are the same family????!!
They are definately from the same parents, my Dad and his cousins can remember every single one of them - and we have family photos of all of the Wanklyn children with the exception of George ;) I have a week off work soon, so it looks like I may be busy again !!!
Cheers

Sue, I wonder if this was in fact a stillbirth ?
It would seem the same to the family if it was full term stillborn, but there was no registration of still births until 1927.
Could be a possible answer.
In my own family there were 8 children born to my grandmother, but family tradition has it there were 10, and no sign whatever of these other 2, so I had assumed these were very late [i.e for the othe children to be aware] miscarriages or in fact unregistered stillbirths.

Thanks very much - I was wondering that myself. It is a shame that none of Nan's generation are still around to ask any questions - but they probably wouldn't talk about it anyway.
Thanks for your help I will keep on searching.

Hi Sue,
Don't know how far back you have got but seeing the name WANKLYN twice in one day is unusual. Just added to my database of MIL(L)WARDs:
Marriage in Ribbesford, WOR, 20 Dec 1793, John MILLWARD to Sarah WANKLIN
Good luck

Thanks for the reply - we do have a Sarah Annie Wanklyn married Stephen Thomas Millward 1st January 1908 at Bishops Frome Herefordshire.
i will check back further on my family tree to see if there are any other Millwards.
Cheers

Sarah millward née wanklyn was my great grandmother. Her daughter olive married Leslie davis and gave birth to my mother in 1933.
I am trying to find out how Sarah 's sister in law Edna Oseman(married to brother percy) is a dead ringer for me.
Still working on it.
