My grandfather Robert Johnston was born in 1874 and immigrated to the US in 1894. He lived in Cavan Town and I have been told that he had brothers that served in the Queen's Guard. His Mother's name was Jane Clarke and I think his Father's name was George. If anyone has information on any Johnstons in Cavan please help me out. I will be visiting Cavan in July and would like to have some information before I get there. Thanks.

Do you know where in Cavan Town your Grandfather was born.
Do you have his birth cert?

I do not have his birth certificate, but hope to get it when I am in Ireland in July. His marriage license from Pennsylvania says his birth date is March 19, 1874, and born in Cavan Ireland. Somewhere in my research I found that he was from Cavan Town. My grandmother Margaret Wilson was born on July 4, 1877 also in Cavan. She immigrated with her family to Philadelphia, Pa in 1893.
He came alone (I think) in 1894. I think they knew each other before coming to the United States.
Thanks for posting. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Pat

I see that you are researching Vincent and Wilson. I have been doing research on several Wilson families in Knockbride Parish. A John Wilson married a Mary Anne Vincent. They had several children in Cavan and then moved to Philadelphia, PA. Some of the family were buried in Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Philadelphia.

This is the Wilson/Vincent family that I am researching. Do you have any information on these families while living in Ireland? I would love to share information with you.

I have been trying to trace my Wilson ancestors who came to Canada from County Cavan for a lot of years. I discovered that they came from Knockbride Parish and I soon found that there were a lot of Wilsons from Knockbride! I believe that my Wilson's came from the townland of Drumbar, but when I checked Griffith's Valuation I found 2 John Wilsons and 2 William Wilsons in Drumbar.
I found that John Wilson, son of John Wilson, (b. about 1836) of Drumbar, Parish of Knockbride, married Mary Anne Vincent of Dooreagh, Parish of Drumgoon, 29 JUL 1858. Property records indicated that John left Drumbar about 1889 and that he went to Philadelphia, where he died in 1911. His address at death was 5726 Woodland Avenue. Mary Ann died 21 JUN 1909 in Phil.
While this branch of the Wilsons did not connect directly with my branch I am sure they are connected at some point.

Yes, My grandfather's father's name was Archibald. I found this out on my trip to Ireland. I also have discovered some of the names of the children listed as male. My grandfather Robert George Johnston was born 1874, John Johnston born 1866. William Johnston born 1871, Margaret born in 1879 and Lillie born in 1880, There are still 2 males that I do not have names for. At this point I am trying to get Baptism records for Presbyterian church to see if I can get the names. I am also trying to confirm the parents of Archibald. I believe now that they are John Johnston & Anne Newell.
Can you add anything to this? Thank you Pat
