Title: Newport Barracks
Post by: Charlie1 on Friday 03 March 06 22:07 GMT (UK)
Does anyone know how to get information about personnel/soldiers who worked/served at Newport Barracks in the early 1900's?  Are any photographs of soldiers who served in Newport available?

Hi there,

My dad was posted there during the 1940's during
the war. I remember him telling me how he befriended
german soldiers there.  I also recalla programme I
saw on the preservation of some of the barracks
ie. wall drawings and furniture left behind. Unfortuantely
I don,t know who is looking after the venture.
There were other nationalities there also. Perhaps if
you look under preservation societies or under the
German Preservation Society. Just a thought.

Hi Sandra

I have been told to contact the RA at Newport.  I'm sending an enquiry by snail mail ... I will let you know the reply.

many thanks,

I seem to recall Maindee Barracks in my mind but

The Barracks in Newport is called Raglan Barracks, Barrack Hill, Newport, Gwent

It is now the headquarters of a TA regiment and 22 SAS
