How do  I find the Commons family in the USA approx 1872-1875 (before Ellis Island). Surname may be spelt Cummins or Commins (or any other phonetic). Interested in where they were and how to get birth certificates if possible.

 Parents were Patrick and Mary (nee Concannon) daughter Mary(b~1864) and Thomas (b~1866) both born UK, next siblings in 1881 & 1901 census are listed as Born USA but British subject, John (b1872) and Henry (b1874) next siblings born 1875 in the UK.

I'd never heard of the surname Common until today.

My ancestor Jane Stewart married William Common on 28/11/1873 in Edinburgh.

Sorry can't help you with tracing your USA ancestors.
