Hello,
I would like some help in locating Thomas C.1796 and Mary Barton C.1794 and their children Jeremiah, Luke, Thomas. Charles and James on the Census records 1841 through to 1871. They lived in Shorwell.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi CP,
Thank you very much for the information you have found.
I know there were lots of Bartons in the village, it doesn't help when they all have the same Christian names :)

Thomas Barton b. Shorwell, my direct family line, was an agricultural labourer and lived at Manor Farm Cottage Church Lane Arreton (now Lavender Cottage rental on website). He worked for Frederick Lodge at Manor Farm Estate all his life. His cottage is just a step away from St George Church in Arreton. His children Stephen b 1820 Shorwell but lived most of his life in Arreton, all other of his children born in Arreton (Mary b1822;Jeremiah 1824; Luke 1827; Thomas 1829; Charles b1833 James 1836). His wife Mary now have established after 9 months of searching was born in Brandon Cork and after extensive research finding the connection between IOW and Cork found her father was an Irish military recruit stationed on IOW during Napoleonic Wars -many were. She is Mary Condon baptised Bandon 2 November 1800. Father is Michael Condon (soldier) Mother Margaret Rourke. Good luck David Barton -Thomas my Gx4

Hey David,
Thomas Barton was my Gx4, my direct line being through his son Stephen.
I was really pleased to read your research on Thomas but more so Mary, as I had not found out any further information about her. You have helped my with a brick wall, thanks!
