Title: Tomlinson/Percival (Leicestershire)
Post by: Cheryl Ann on Thursday 30 September 04 19:32 BST (UK)
Hi all,

I'm looking for parents of Sarah Tomlinson & John Percival.  I know they got married in Thurlaston, Leicestershire February 13, 1813.  Unfortunately, the IGI doesn't say which Church or Chapel.  Nor does it give you the parents names.  All I know is that this couple had their children's baptisms performed at the General Baptist Chapel, Thurlaston, Leicestershire.  I'm wondering if they may have married in this Chapel.

Is there anyone that could possibly help me please?

Regards,

Cheryl

Greeting's & Welcome Cheryl. . . . .

I can confirm the marriage of:-
Sarah Tomlinson ~ John Percival.
1813. Thurlaston Parish. . . .By Banns.

This is according to my disk of
Leicestershire Marriages Index. 1801 ~1837.

Now it makes references to " PARISH " Abbreviations.
So I wonder if it was the Church ( All Saints )
that they married at ?
But there again as you have said they usually baptised their Children at the same Church / Chapel they were married at. . .

In order to solve your enquiry you need to have a look at the Parish Records held at " Leicestershire Records Office " Long Street Wigston. . . .

Hi Mike,

Thankyou for your message.

I've been stuck on this couple (my 4th grt grandparents) for quite some time, not knowing where to look or who to contact to try and find out more.  So thankyou for giving me the address of the Records Office.  I will contact them a.s.a.p.

Also, thankyou for confirming the marriage for me.  It proves that I do have the correct couple.  I just hope that if I can track the original entry down, that it will give me their fathers names.

Once again thankyou. I really appreciate your help.

Regards,

Cheryl

You may already have this info ?
But if not I hope it helps you.

From personal experiences the information
found on early Parish Records is sometimes not very helpful.
Due to the date of the Wedding then it well might only give the Names of Sarah & John plus the Minister and Wittiness. So if the parents were the Wittiness then your lucky. . . .

Hi Mike,

Thankyou for your message.

I can't believe the information you have found for me.  This is great stuff!!!!

I'm almost certain that George & William are sarah's brothers.  So this info is going to be very useful to me.

About John & Sarah on the 1841.  Thankyou for looking for me.  The fact that you didn't find them means that they most definitely will be on the 1841 census for Derby (St Peters).  I knew that they moved to Derby at some stage because Grandfather John had a Shoe Shop on Sacheverel St.  Also one of his sons (Elisha) had a Confectioners Shop on St Peters St.  I found them in the White's 1857 Directory.

About John & Sarah's marriage entry in the register, I really do hope I'm a lucky one.  I'm really struggling with this couple especially with the Percival side.  Sarah's parents could be William Tomlinson & Mary who I found on the IGI.  But it would be nice to be able to confirm that.  John however, I have got no Idea at all.  None of my family members can remember anything.

So Fingers crossed eh!

Once again thankyou for this information, it will be a great help.

Regards,

Cheryl (from Derbyshire)

Hi Mike,

Thankyou for your message.

I'm in shock over the information you have found for me.  I feel sure that I will eventually be able to tie all these people in.  :o

It would be a great help if you popped over to Wigston.  But please don't make a special trip just for me.  I wouldn't expect you to do that.  Wait until you need to go to look for something that you need.

If there is anything that I can help you with in Chesterfield, Derby or Sheffield, please let me know.

Regards,

Cheryl

Hi CrystalRose,

I'm sorry but I don't have much info on the Percival's as yet.

I don't have a Stephen Percival or Kate Percival or George Faulkner in my tree.

If I do turn up anything, I will definitely let you know.

Best Wishes,

Cheryl
