Hi Newbie,
The 1901 Canadian census is on line . It is not searchable by name but rather by geographic area.  That'll keep you busy for a bit! ;D

Sorry it is a little confusing to read.  It is a list of the people in family 303 Victoria City Johnson Street Ward (4 b-1)

It looks like James Newing is an unemployed lodger and Is that Daniel with him, the surname may have been mis-transcribed.

Hope this helps

Sue

Hi Can you Help, ref 1891 census for Kenora (Rat Portage) Ont Canada. William Henry Hawley and Agnes Hawley.
The new information I have on them is William was born Syracuse USA 1840 and came to Kenora in 1883 from Albany NY. their daughter Sadie Agnes was born 1880 in Minesotta USA.
1901 census shows only William as his  wife Agnes died in Kenora 1894 and Sadie is shown on the UK 1891 census visiting here Aunt. But I would really appreciate any info regarding the 1891 census for Kenora. I can not find out where they married  it might have been the States or Canada
Any help  will b appreciated  thanks Ken

It's a lovely photograph, but different Newings.

Edith returned to UK during WW1.  I forget when Alfred was demobbed but he went to England to join her - she did not return to Canada.

I just wanted to let you know that the Canadian Census for 1901 and 1906 are already transcribed, and the 1911 is being transcribed now by volunteers. They are available for free at http://automatedgenealogy.com/index.html

In Canada, alot of information is free for viewing. In British Columbia, there seems to be even more available.

British Columbia Archives
http://www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/index.htm

British Columbia Archival Information Network
http://aabc.bc.ca/aabc/archweb.html

British Columbia Cemeteries

Alberta Family History Society (Also information about British Columbia)

Canadian Genealogy and History Links

Also, if you know what towns or cities your family lived in, you can check the local libraries to see if they have a website. Sometimes photo archives, etc. are posted.

Good Luck
