If this is your mother or father's "parents", you can check your parent's marriage certificate, for the maiden name of your grandmother. You can also check your mother or father's birth certificate for the date and place of your grandparents marriage.

This will at least give you some dates to work with, so that you can check Scotlands People website at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for census records as well as marriage, birth and death records.

Once you have some dates to work with, you can post all information you have. Include not only dates, but places of the marriage, birth, etc. for as far back as you can.

Hello

I don't know if we may have a family relationship.

I have an Esther McLean (nee Duffin) born abt 1818 Rutherglen. Her husband was Alexander McLean. Alexander and Ester had a son Richard born abt 1848.  The parents names I found on Richard's marriage certificate. Richard and his wife Marion married in 1873 and had 3 children that I know of. Elizabeth born abbt 1876 Glasgow, Esther born abt 1878 Dalmeny and William McLean born abt 1881 Pollokshaws. Esther married Thomas Dorman in Blackfriars Church Glasgow in 1896 and later immigrated to Canada. Have no idea on Esther's (ggrandmother) siblings. Would these be some of your cousins names?

Hello Patrick

What was the cousins name?

My Alexander died after April 18, 1873 (son's marriage) and before 1881 census as Esther is a widow, living at 63 Carrick St, Glasgow. I know absolutely nothing about Alexander other than he was a labourer. Esther was a licensed spirits dealer in Glasgow. I haven't found Alexander, Esther, nor Richard on the 1871 census.

Richard and Marion were married in Lesmahagow, Lanark, both giving their usual addresses as Lesmahagow in 1873. In 1876 they were in Glasgow, Lanark and in 1878 they were in Dalmeny, Linlithgow, as per birth of their children given on census. Don't know street addresses. They lived in 1881 at Potterfield Brickland, Eastwood, Renfrewshire and in 1891 at 1 New Row, Eastwood. Richard was a miner, a native of Ireland and died before 1896. I haven't found his death certificate yet; however, he was deceased before April 18, 1873.  Additional children found since earlier post were Margaret, Alexander and Minnie all born in Eastwood.

Daughter Esther married Thomas Dorman in Glasgow April 20, 1896 at 52 Dean St., Glasgow. In 1901 Thomas & Esther were living Kings Close, West Kilbride, Ayrshire. They moved after 1906 to Crossmyloof, Renfrewshire and later immigrated to Canada.
