Hi!
Does anyone have Any info on the Padley family from Yorkshire, South Hiendley?
I know that my great great grandfather, George, was born there sometime around 1847 his wife, Selina, was born in Barnsley in 1851/52. They had around 3 children (could be more) all born in South Heindley, Charles (b.1887/8) being my Great Grandfather.
Any info would be great!! :)

Thank you! that has been a big help!
:)

Do you think George Padley married his servant? ;)
-
Hello!
Yes, that thought had crossed my mind too! I'm going to try to find a cert to prove it..!
-
Hello again. Found this:
Marriages Mar 1888
Marriott Selina Dewsbury 9b 739
Padley George Dewsbury 9b 739
.....................................Pob Lwc! (Good Luck!)
So going by this find and the 1881 Census detail It looks as though there are children from Selina from a previous marriage and also for George.
You may have a lovely huge family that you knew nothing about! and of course that leaves the Marriott surname to research now! :P
-
Oh great! Thank you!
It does make sense that they married as my grandmothers name was Selina too, so maybe she was named after her grandmother!
As for the other name - oh no! I have so many names already!!!!!! lol ;D

There may be no connection here, but thought it worth noting just incase.
As the likelyhood of the Marriott name now being connected to the Padley surname I searched for the surname in the 1881 Census I searched for all with the name born in Barnsley like Selina but there were no matches, but there was a match to a Marriott born in Dewsbury I have also looked for South Hiendley but no matches. If you should need any other 1881 Census look up for the region just give me a shout!

In the 1891 census george and selina have living with them Jos and Benj Blackburn (nephews) i believe Jos is my gt grandfather if i am on the right track his mother was Mary Ann Padley and was from Wakefield i believe that the boys were both orphans by 1891 they also had a sister Harriett who died in Wakefield workhouse in 1886.

I am related to Robert Marriott the son of Selena Padley, nee Marriott. I believe she married George Padley in 1888, having previously married a John Marriot from Dewsbury (died 1886). Did you discover more? Is Robert Marriot, named as Robert Padley Moxon in the 1881 census (Moxon I believe was Selenas maiden name) the child of John Marriott or George Padley?
