Title: Blo'Norton Death
Post by: Blue-Spirit on Tuesday 14 February 06 01:25 GMT (UK)
In search of a date of death for William Anness, reported sometime in the Diss Express, but cannot find it as a lack of date.

William Anness died some time in the 1930s at Blo'Norton, under the Guiltcross hundred, a date would be real helpful. No church records as I understand.

Thank you.

If he was buried in the churchyard at Blo'Norton then the Norfolk Record Office does have the burial register for that period ref PD 198/8. Have you tried searching the civil indexes for the death certificate which would give you a death date? You can search them for free at www.ancestry.co.uk.

The Guiltcross registration district was abolished in 1902 and Blo Norton became part of the Thetford registration district.  In the original GRO Death Index there is the following entry:

March quarter 1930
William Anneas age 86
Thetford registration district
Volume 4b page 374

I know the spelling is different but I thought I'd mention it just in case the surname was recorded incorrectly.  The page the above entry appears on is typed so there is a possibility it could be a case of a typing error as "a" & "s" are next to each other on a typewriter.  Equally, obviously the entry could be recorded correctly.

Good Luck

Lurker, Thats my man, since my search I have tracked down William  but only via tracking through newspapers, a bonus was we were able to find a picture of him.
Your info helps a great deal so we can obtain a certificate.

Many thanks for your help and efforts...

best wishes
