Karen,

You don't say which time period you are interested in,  my first port of call would be the Durham record office at
http://www.durham.gov.uk/durhamcc/usp.nsf/web/pages/durham+record+office+homepage (http://www.durham.gov.uk/durhamcc/usp.nsf/web/pages/durham+record+office+homepage)

They have a Family History section with a place name index that could be of help to you,

Good Luck,

Kazza.

Thanks for that info Kazza, i have taken my tree back to 1865 and got stuck in the Durham/ Chester le street areas. Main names involved are Dawson / Wright Spence and Askew.

Hi Karen,

I see your interested in ASKEW, DAWSON & others in Chester-le-Street.
I have all these names on the 1891 census for Chester-le-Street.
If you could supply some names and details I could look them up for you.

Cheers
Geoff
