I've only just registered onto Roots chat.  Saw your query on Mackeys of Limerick. My grandfather was born in Castleconnell, Co Limerick. His Uncle Thomas and Auntie Elizabeth both moved to Australia in the second half of the 19th century. Elizabeth became Mother Superior in Presentation Convent in Windsor, Melbourne. She died in 1939. Her brother Thomas, who I believe was older, was a very successful Sheep farmer and there are suggestions that Mackeyville was named after him. I don't believe he married and I assume he also died out there.
A Grand Aunt, Rebecca Mackey also moved to Sydney, married a Johnson and together ran The Gresham Hotel in Sydney.
Can you offer any help on these people?

Also seeking Mackeys in Ireland and Australia.

I am researching the Mackey family and Treacy Family – My 2nd Great Grandparents.  The only information I have so far is: Parents Thomas Mackey b. abt 1813 in Limerick (I’m guessing) and Bridget Treacy b. abt 1815 also Limerick (also guessing). Marriage would have been abt 1832 (although I cannot find a record).  All children born between 1833 and 1856 were baptised in Pallasgrean & Templebredon, Limerick.  Kilduff is noted as an address on one of these Baptism Records.  Have found Griffiths Valuations in 1853 for Grean, Kilduff, Limerick, Ireland in the Name of Thomas Mackey.

Would love to find more information on this couple and further information on the family history. If anyone can point me in the right direction as I live in Australia, I would really appreciate it.

The children:

•   John Mackey b. abt 1833, baptised on 20 Oct 1833 at Pallasgrean & Templebredon, Co Limerick, Ireland and Godparents were Patrick Treacy and Mary Kearney. No further info.

•   Catherine Mackey b. abt 1835, baptised on 1 Mar 1835 at Pallasgrean & Templebredon, Co Limerick, Ireland and Godparents were John Mackey and El Roche. Married William Real 6 Nov 1856 at Pallasgrean & Templebredon, Co Limerick, address is Kilduff, witnesses were Patrick Ryan and Margaret Treacy no parents names listed. Emigrated to Australia in abt 1857. Both passed away in Victoria, Australia. Had 7 children.

•   Patrick Mackey b. abt 1837, baptised on 13 Aug 1837 at Pallasgrean & Templebredon, Co Limerick, Ireland and Godparents were Edmond Treacy and El Dwyer. No further info.

•   Daniel Mackey b. abt 1842, baptised on 3 Apr 1842 at Pallasgrean & Templebredon, Co Limerick, Ireland and Godparents were William Mackey and Margaret Mackey. Emigrated to Australia in 1862 On board the Ocean Empress with brother William. Occupation: Farm Labourer. Married Bridget Nicholson in 1864 in Sydney, NSW, Australia. Lived in NSW Australia. Passed away in 1874 Victoria, Australia.

•   William Mackey b. abt 1845, baptised on 18 Apr 1845 at Pallasgrean & Templebredon, Co Limerick, Ireland and Godparents were DI Mackey Ca Mackey (abbreviated). Emigrated to Australia in 1862 On board the Ocean Empress with brother Daniel. Occupation: Farm Labourer. Lived in NSW Australia.

•   Bridget Mackey b. abt 1850, baptised on 9 Dec 1850 at Pallasgrean & Templebredon, Co Limerick, Ireland and Godparents were John Mackey and Ca Mackey (abbreviated). No further info.

My Grandfather was Thomas Mackey, he was born abt 1853 in Kilduff, Co Limerick. He was baptised on 24 April 1853 at Pallasgrean & Templebredon, Co Limerick, Ireland and Godparents were Patrick Mackey and Mary Treacy. He emigrated to Australia between 1880-1882.  Married Bridget Christina Burns on 1 May 1882 in St Mary's, Echuca, Victoria, Australia. They had 9 children. He passed away in 1926 at Essendon, Victoria, Australia.

•   Edmond Mackey b. abt 1856, baptised on 20 Apr 1856 at Pallasgrean & Templebredon, Co Limerick, Ireland and Godparents were Patrick MacKey and Bridget Ryan. Emigrated to Australia in 1873 On board the Great Britain. Married Julia Ann Blanchfield Briscoe in 1881 Armidale, New South Wales, Australia. Had 8 children.  Passed away in 1906 Fitzroy, Victoria, Australia.

Any information anyone might have on this family would be very welcome.  I am also quite happy to share any information I have.

Kindest Regards,
Penny

It might be an idea to extend your search for the marriage of Thomas and Bridget to the neighbouring parishes to see if they moved at some stage. Many of the adjacent parishes have records back to the early 1800s.

There's a map of the Co. Limerick RC parishes on the Irish Times website - see : link (http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/limerickerc.htm)
