What a find, bet you were pleased to find this little gem. Fathers who are not paying for their families are still around today according to the news :D :D

Hi Sarah,

Great to read about one of your ancestors like that - even if not for the right reasons!!  ;D

And what a great website - interesting even tho I have no Welsh blood in me (I think - at the moment - surely not  :o!)

Cheers

Keith

P.S. So the Gov. can spend money wisely sometimes?

Hi Sarah,

Have you seen this old thread from last August?  It started off as a bit of Friday afternoon fun but a few Rootschatters actually found new links for their family trees!

What do you get when you Google yourself? (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,78787.0.html)

Regards,

Al

Wow!  When I Googled my name, I found a story that I had published a couple of years ago!  And I thought it had been long deleted!

I'm depressed now - and it's your fault, Al!

I thought I'd have a go at the 'google yourself' trick.

The first entry read : ' Jillian Russell is a beautiful young singer/dancer set to take the world by storm'.

I'm not!   :'(

Dave - If that really is your photograph, you should charge the BBC for the use of it.  ::)

I haven't googled myself yet, but read the initial thread and was curious so went to the site mentioned.  Guess what, a relatives GG grandfather, Edwin Shepherd b1838 South HUish, Devon served on the HMS Clio in 1861.  On teh census it was listed as being in Guayamas Harbour, West Coast of Mexico.

Also I notice that Jillruss has an ancestor, a Shepherd as his profile picture.  Any links do you think?

Thanks for thinking of me, Nad, but my Shepherds came from Aberdeen. I have another lot of Shepherds from Notts but none anywhere near Devon - more's the pity. It would have been a nice excuse for a visit to Devon and a few cream teas!!  ::)

Hi Lizzie,
Yes it is my photo, it is on a local Shipley site along with some others, but nothing to do with the BBC.
I will as for 10p off my next license  ;D

I got really curious after reading the title of this thread, and tried googling some of my father-in-law's ancestors' names. Found my way into a couple of family trees connected with F-i-L's.  F-i-L had no idea who his father was - at least, if he found out, he didn't share the information - but I have my suspicions from building up information. He was fostered (not adopted) after birth, so never actually knew his mother, either. However, with today's search, I've found some more information about his mother's ancestors, which has filled in some gaps, so thanks for the suggestion, Sarah!  ;D
