Just discovered my GGGGG Father was a Licensed Victualer in Newton Solney Derbyshire. Some one of a same name had the UNICORN in NS in the 1835 Pigotts.
Where can I get more information?William Eaton was the name.

There are currently two pubs in Newton Solney - the Unicorn and the Blacksmiths Arms. Someone has written a history of the village - it was on sale at Ottakars in Burton on Trent only a few months ago but I have no idea whether it would contain the information you are looking for.
One of my maternal great grandparents was born there - name EYRE - which was long associated with NS I believe.
Best of luck

I will try to get a copy of that my ancestors were Eatons. Lots of them in debyshire mostly called William or George unfortunatley. Not too easy following all the families through.

I too am descended from the Newton Solney Eyres, and have a lot of information...my Grandmother was Sarah Ann Eyre, married Fred Jordan...also my great Aunt Agnes, who married Will Lovatt, both marriages at Stretton.
if you would like to exchange information, please ask.

I notice that your web name is Chinn . Is this any indication of your family name. I am descended from a Maria Chinn who was married to William Eaton I do have information about this couple.
-
I have traced the Chinn line back to 1812 in Derby....the earliest is Thomas said to have been born in London. My gt. grandmother was Maria Chinn, but she was born Maria Stevens (related to the Shardlow wharf family).
I suspect that there are a lot of other relatives out there but couldn't find a connection to other Chinns who were in the same area,
Any information you have would be appreciated.

My Maria Chinn came from Stafford, Wolsey Bridge.
Was married from Sandon Staffordshire to William Eaton on 7 th April 1830.
She died in 1900 on 2 Sep and is buried in St Mary's Church Newton Solney where she had lived all her married life. She had 7 children I am descended from one of them -George Eaton who eventually moved to Rochdale Lancashire.
At one time Maria & William were the Licensee 's at The Unicorn Inn in NS although William was also a farmer. I do have more details about the Eatons but not too many about the Chinns.Hope that helps.

Thansk for your information...I was aware of Chinns at Sandon, but could not find a link to my lot.
My connection with Newton Solney is through my maternal grandmother, and the Eyre family apparently came to Newton solney in the late 1700s, from the Hope Valley,( One was Parish Clerk at the time of Maria Chinn and several were blacksmiths wheelwrights shopkeepers at Newton.)
It seems that it may be a remarkable co incidence that a Chinn was there at the same time, my mother married my father in 1936, and this seems to be the first introduction of the Chinn genes!
BUT the Sandon Chinns are of interest, the original document at Derby Records shows Thomas Chinn as born London, but the writing is unclear, and although the IGI transcribed as London, it could equally have been Sandon.
As always there are more questions than answers!

Yes as you say. Lots of questions. The Church Records are on the premises at N S and the gravestones in place so I enjoyed visiting there. In the pub there was a picture of a family (the Licensee) around the time of Maria. Not labelled unfortunatly.

Thanks, nice to hear from you.

Hi, I am researching the Eatons of Rochdale as I am a descendent of Jane Eaton, George's daughter. I have found Maria Chinn and William but gets a little cloudy. Any further info on the Eaton/Chinns would be appreciated.
