Title: BBC Gloucs Police records BIRD
Post by: BBC Gloucs on Saturday 11 February 06 14:24 GMT (UK)
Norman would like to know whether it is possible to find out about the Police career of his relative Herbert BIRD.

It is thought he served in Staffordshire, ?Stone.  He was born about 1890 and he possibly achieved the rank of Chief Superintendent.

Would be grateful for any information.

Hi Norman,

Staffordshire police do have a museum.

http://www.staffordshire.police.uk/history.htm

I don't have any experience of finding records but I'm sure an email to them at museum[at]staffordshire.pnn.police.uk asking what records are available may open a door or two.

All the best,
Pam

Hi Norman,

The Gloucestershire Police records are kept at the Gloucestershire Record Office.

See http://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=1348 for contact details etc.

See here for details of records held -

Good Luck,

Richard

Hello Richard

My mistake - when I helped Norman create his post, I forgot to put a hyphen in the title!

He is looking for Staffordshire Police records - we happened to be at the BBC Radio Gloucestershire Family History Fair when we wrote the request!

Thanks anyway for the refs - I will store them for the future

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)
