Can anyone help??
I am trying to trace my Dads Dads Dad Joseph Lawrence, according to my reckoning he should appear on the 1901 Census.
I have looked and it appears that the Joseph Lawrence that appears on it should be infact William Joseph (my Dads Dad) who was born in 1899.
I have managed to get Joseph Lawrence's Marriage date as 1897, but i am unable to trace his Birth date it Death date.
As you can see i am trying to get these dates as to finish the 4th generation.
If a person does not appear on a census, can you tell me where else i could look??
Thanks for any assistance

Hi!
I'm sure we could help, but a little more information would be useful.
Where was William Joseph born in 1899? If we find him on the 1901 census, it will be easier to trace his father back.
Andy :)
P.S. Do you have Joseph's marriage certificate? It would give his age and name of father, which again would help to track him back.

Yes Joseph Lawrence (Should be William Joseph) my dads dad, was born in 1899 and apears on the 1901 census along with his who i take as his mother mother Alice Esther, and his what i think is Alices mother Elizabeth Light..
Unfortunately i do not have any records or certificates from Joseph Lawrence
Thanks

Hi!
Without knowing a rough date of birth or place for Joseph Lawrence, it's going to be really hard to trace him back.
All I can think of is getting his marriage certificate, which will give you an age and the name of his father, as well as place of residence.
Sorry I couldn't help more
Andy :)

Ive no idea if this is relevant or not but you never know.
1901 has Alice as married but no sign of her husband so maybe this could be him
Wm Lawrence 30 married b Portsmouth Leading stoker aboard the vessel Mars stationed in Gibralter

Thanks for your communication, but it looks as though this is my dads dad, not my dads dadsdad which is a generation before what i was looking for.
Thanks anyway
