My friend would like to know whether her family can be found on the 1901 census - probably Soham
Florence Violet MURFETT was born 1889 prob in Soham.
Father was a farmer, publican & coal merchant. Prob came from the area. There was an older sister know Dorrie. Mother had been in service.
CAn anyone find her please?
TIA

Hi,
I can see her in 1891 - aged 10 ms and down as born Suffolk Bures
RG12/1440 33 3
Any use?
Having a look at 1901 now.
Tanja :)

That dad was a Furrier in 1901, though ???
Cold Dorrie be Evelyn Doris b. 1894 Sudbury - if so this has to be the correct family
Tricia ???
-
On the 1901 there is a Robert (47, Ag Lab) and Selina Murfett (46) both born in Soham, Cambs.,
"same page", no kids !
and they are also on the 1881, but no kids !
Bob
ps Census place, both times = Soham, Cambs.

Tricia - doesn't it read Farmer?

Still looks more like Furrier to me - he dabbled in everything by the look of it. Think Evelyn Doris looks interesting, though
Tricia

You're getting me confused - they are living on a 'farm' - doesn't his occupation look just the same as the 'Farm' in the address?
-
I'm not saying I am correct - only what it looks like to me ;D
Tricia
-
OK - anybody else wants to have a go at the image?? ;D ;D
Anyway, Arranroot's friend, she seems to be the only Florence around. Therefore whatever her father's occupation, I trust they are the right family.
Tanja :)

I can see a Henry John Murfit age 3 on the 1871 census in Soham. Parents James and Martha and plenty siblings.
Would you like the details?
RG10/1601 67 25

Had to have a look at the 1901 and must confess I would have read it as Furrier, even with the name of the farm :D would have assumed he was a rabbit breeder :)
But then as both Tricia and Tanja knows, I often have difficulty with occupations. :D

I often have difficulty with occupations. :D
Come on, Nessie - I'm the champ at this! ;) I agree it must be furrier then. 8)
-
I can also trace Annie Howard with a sister Rosina.
In 1881 they are at RG11/1826 65 13
Do you have access from where you are? If not, let me know!
Tanja :)

Arranroots, like Tanja I will standby if we can help in any way :) :) :)
-
Perhaps he skinned rabbits ;D ;D
Tricia
-
OK - anybody else wants to have a go at the image??
I think 1901 says farmer
Casalguidi :)
-
Pistols at dawn, methinks :)
Tricia
-
I too think it's farmer with the loopy part of the a partly obliterated by the tick through it.
Either that or there are a lot of furriers and furrier workers living on furri's!

I have a John Murfitt m. to Mary Ann Sennitt in 1877 in Stretham, Cambs. and Edward Sennitt m to Alic Murfitt in 1828, Alice died 1887. in my family tree, and they were mainly Brewers, Farmers, Poulterers (wotever that is). I cant remember which census it was now but on one the Murfitts and Sennitts lived next door to each other.

Hi Marg
This thread was started by me, in an attempt to help a BBC Radio Glocuestershire listener with her family tree at their last Family History Day. I don't know whether the listener joined Rootschat later - perhaps they will pop up and tell us!
If we can help you in any way, it would be a good idea to start a new thread on the Cambridgeshire board.
Incidentally, I will be attending the next BBC Radio Gloucestershire FH Day on October 14th. Anyone who would like to help - give me a shout!
kind regards, Arranroots ;)

Chiming in nearly 2 years later to say I have this family in my extended tree. I have more information if the original poster is still around and would like to share!
(I know, optimism rules!)
