Trying to find a Arabella Dora Stonehouse b Dec qtr 1841 Whitby. Could sks find her on 1851 Census please. Her Parents maybe Matthew and Elizabeth(only because i have so many).
Being an unusual name she maybe easy to find!!! :D :D :D
Just found on IGI: Arabella Dora Stonehouse ch 28 Nov 1841 Lythe Parents: Matthew Stonehouse, Elizabeth ( Extracted Record) Still need to find her on a Census.

Nobody of that name shows up on any census. Did she definitely survive into adulthood
I found a Matthew and Elizabeth Stonehouse on the 1861 but no children born in the 1840's. Elizabeth was only born 1829

When you have the time could you post the census for the Matthew and Elizabeth you found in 1861 as i do not have them yet.
I have been in contact with my 3rd Cousin's Wife and have confirmed her family but nobody knows what happened to her. I have the family in 1861 and she is not with them. I will post again with the info i have

Hi Carol,
It has me stumped too! I have tried to trace Arabella, like you I found the christening but nothing else?
I found this on the 1861 census - thinking it might fit your Matthew and Elizabeth, due to the Lythe connection, here goes:
Matthew Stonehouse, b.1801, Lythe.
Elizabeth, b.1809, Whitby.
Christopher. b.1827, Lythe,
Jane (Hind) b. 1857 Great Broughton/Little Broughton, (grand-daughter)
At the time of the census they all lived in Great Broughton.
Hope this helps.

Hi
One way of possibly solving the mystery is to look for a death for her between 1841-1851
The FULL BMD index is now available to search free of charge at www.ancestry.co.uk. You will find it described as England & Wales, BMD Index (Beta)
The partial index (freebmd) can also be searched on the same website or at http://freebmd.rootsweb.com

Matthew and Elizabeth in Great Broghton are Arabella's Parent's. Christopher is her brother and Jane her niece. But NO Arabella. Looks like she died in Childhood but will have a look in Ancestry and see if i can find her.

Hello,
It is a mystery - I checked the deaths earlier, nothing!
Arabella Dora, Arabella, Dora even Bella but as far as I can see no record?
One thing I did come across which may slot in later for you was a Jane Stonehouse, b. 1777 (Lythe) living as head of house with daughter Mary, b.1807 and grand-daughter, Margaret b.1827.
There appears to be a lot of births in Lythe around the time of Matthew (1809) - I wonder if Jane is their mother?
Sorry I haven't been able to help very much.
-
I also checked the death registrations Dec 1841 - 1851 but didn't see her.
Her birth is officially registered so she did exist!

If this were my family I would now send for that birth certificate to see if it reveals any secrets.
Birth was registered qrt ending Dec 1841

Maybe she did not like her name ???

Maybe illegitimate and given to another family? Hopeless if that happened.
Tricia ??? ???

Hi
Pels found an 1861 for Matthew Stonehouse but where are they in 1851??????
-
Her father was born 1800 and her mother was born 1802. Her brother Christopher was born 1826, Thomas was born 1828 and Anne born 1830 then came Arabella 1841. Maybe she went to a younger family member although her Mother lived to be 90.
-
She is not with her Stonehouse Granparents in 51.
-
Arabella Dora Stonehouse is my Great Great Grandmother. I believe she came to Australia when she was 15. She died in 1931 and is buried in Rookwood cemetery, Sydney NSW. She married William Archer in 1874.

Hi,
I have looked up the birth registration for Arabella Dora STONEHOUSE on the GRO Online Index. The GRO ref. is as follows:
Arabella Dora Stonehouse, 1841, Dec Qtr., Registration District, Whitby Union, Volume 24, Page 497. Mother's Maiden Surname, JOHNSTON. My suggestion would be to apply for the birth certificate. I have had no luck with searches for death registration 1841-1861.
The GRO Online Index is a good place to search for free as it also gives the mother's maiden surname for registered births between 1837 and 1918. You can also search death registrations between 1837 and 1957.

Hi Carol,
I've been doing a little bit more digging and thanks to a previous post by Jennifer Porter I have cast my search a bit further afield.
A google search for Arabella Dora STONEHOUSE turned up a marriage in 'The Empire' newspaper' in Sydney, dated Saturday, October 24, 1874. Transcript as follows:
"Woollahra.
On September 26, at Trinity Church, Glen Innes, by the Rev. G. M. Johnson, H.A.,
William, son of William Henry Archer of Brooklyn, New York, U.S.,
to Arabella Dora, daughter of Matthew Charles and Elizabeth Stonehouse, of
Lithe, near Whitby, Yorkshire, England."
The newspaper can be found on the TROVE website - the Australian equivalent of the BNA.
I hope this helps in your search.
Find a grave also have mention of her burial in Rookwood Cemetery.
Kind regards
Joan

I know believe Arabella did not belong to my Matthew and Elizabeth.
There were a lot of Stonehouse families in the same area so she will fit in somewhere
Thank you for your time
Carol
