Title: 1881/1891 census
Post by: farnorthjean on Friday 24 September 04 21:52 BST (UK)
I managed to use the ancestry site free for just 1 day, before they closed it down but I did find my gg grandmother on the 1891 census , She was Eliza  Weston born in Mayfield, widowed aged 59, living at Argos hill grocery shop, Mayfield.I have been told  that her husband John died in 1889 and is buried in St Dunstans Mayfield.
My query is that I have never been able to find her or him on the 1881 census, I have been searching for ages to find out if they had other children other than my G grandfather Luther, he was born in 1866 at Flimwell. In the 1881 census Luther shows up living with his Uncle Aaron Weston at Argos mill, Mayfield.
John was born in Mayfield in 1834, on the 1851 census he was at Argos Mill, he married Eliza in 1855, the only family that might fit  on the 1881 census, is a John Weston, born 1834 but at Newick, grocer and carpenter, with 2 children , Mary 19  and John 17, he's down as married, if it was Eliza surely she would  show up somewhere.
Any ideas or help would be much appreciated, this has been a bit of a brick wall for sometime,
                     many thanks   Jean.

Hi there Jean

Unfortunately I have had little success finding them on the 1881 census, but I have been able to locate John & his siblings on the 1841 census for Mayfield - still in the same house

HO107/ 1116/ Schedule 45 / Page 11 / Argos Hill, Mayfield

WESTON Aaron, 40, Miller
              Eliza, 40
              Aaron, 17
              Lucy, 12
              Nathan, 10
              John, 7
              Joel, 5
              Ruth, 3
              Eli, 1
All born in Sussex.

Hope that helps you in some small way

Hallo Chris,
thank you very much for looking for me, there must be a mistake on the LDS copy of the 1881 census , Eliza must be around some where, has anyone got any ideas?
             Many thanks,
                   Jean.

Hi

On the 1881 CD copy for Mayfield, I went through every house, (using the neighbour search) one by one looking for a Weston or a corruption of Weston - but without any luck - took me over 1 hour, but I still couldn't find them anywhere.

Sorry Jean

thank  you Chris,
you've worked hard for me this weekend, this family has baffled me for months and months, I'll have to wait until the 1871 census comes out then perhaps they will show up on there,
            many many thanks Jean.

Hi Jean,

We've already corresponded about this elsewhere, but I though I would just add what I think are the relevant WikiTree pages for the Eliza Weston (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Saunders-5513) and Luther Weston (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Weston-2817) discussed above.

Regards,

Chris.
