My gt gt gt grandfather, Stephen PALMER, was a Colour Sergeant in the 48th during the Peninsular Wars - do you know if the Registers go that far back??
Or where I can find out?
As Stephen & his Portuguese "wife" Maria had a son in Portugal [in abt 1812] before being sent back to the UK in 1814 where they got married in Chelsea!

I am researching Pte James Carroll, Reg No 786, who served with the Regiment from 1874 until 1880, and he was married to Mary Ann.
I see you have a reference to Veronica Josephine Carroll in 1878 and wondered if there was a link?
I know it has been a few years but I am hoping your kind offer for help was still open?
Cheers!
