Title: Henrietta COLEMAN - HORSHAM
Post by: Jane Masri on Saturday 04 February 06 07:42 GMT (UK)

Passing this on from another Sussex list...PM me if you want to get in touch with the person who posted this, I will give you their email address.

Hi Listers,
I hope my detective work helps someone researching the COLEMAN  family of RYE
/ HORSHAM.   ( Not in our own research )
I was looking on the 1861 census for someone in the HEADINGTON  LUNATIC
ASYLUM ( luckily we are slightly more understanding  these days )  where the
inmates only appeared by initials.
An unmarried girl with the initials HC aged 27 a physician's  daughter
born HORSHAM made me decide to investigate on the 1851  census.
She was HENRIETTA COLEMAN aged 18 in 1851, a student, daughter of  WILLIAM
THOMAS COLEMAN  & HENRIETTA.   They were living in  North Street, HORSHAM with
several other children.

Here we are Jane, 1841 Census:

HO107/1097/ Schedules 47/48 Pages 10/11
East Street, Horsham

William Thos Coleman, 42, M.D.
Henrietta Coleman, 32
William Stephen do, 11
James Dickson do, 10
Rebecca Coleman, 4
Mary Anne do, 3
Matter Amos (?) do, 1

All born in Sussex.

No 8 year-old Henrietta, though.

There was a 57 year-old Elizabeth Coleman in Bishopwick, Horsham, a schoolmistress.  Possibly a sister of William Thomas???

No doubt you already have the marriage:

Place: Horsham
Date: 13th November 1828
Groom: William Thomas Coleman, bach
Bride: Henrietta Dendy, sp minor
Both of this parish - by licence

;D  Oh Dimps, did you read the posting fully?  Someone had found some information about Henrietta Coleman & wondered if their findings would help someone researching this family.  I posted it on the Sussex page in case a Rootschatter was researching the Coleman family :)  You're so sweet to have looked that all up :-*  Here's hoping someone can use all that information!
