Title: emigration Allcock/Preval
Post by: lanshaw on Saturday 04 February 06 05:31 GMT (UK)
Trying to find the emigration to Canada for Maud Allcock, her younger brother Walter and her cousin Sam Preval.  From what I have been told they moved to Canada around 1917.  At this time Maud would have been about 24, Walter about 13 and Sam about 15.

I know Maud eventually married a Campbell (when?) and settled in Cobourg Ontario, Walter I know nothing of what he did, Sam Preval settled in Montreal and had a photography studio there.

Any help or leads greatfully appreciated.

Hi Lanshaw,
Looking at the OCFA for Cobourg Union, there is a Pte Campbell, which reminded me the time of Maud's immigration would have been towards the end of WW1. Just wondering if you've ever considered Maud may have been a War Bride and may even have married in England.
I'm sure this is in the resources but in case you haven't seen it, this database covers Northumberland County, Ontario.

Hi Shash and Shealer

Thanks for what you have found so far.  Yes that is Maud listed in the cemetery record.  After talking to my mother again (Mauds neice) it is possible that she was a war bride who married a Douglas Campbell.  Also, she seems to recall that Douglas was a fireman and that their son, also Douglas, was in the Canadian air force possibly a "test Pilot".

Well I have found Maud Allcock and Sam Preval and his family in the Passenger Lists.  The ony one I am left with is Walter Allcock who came over in 1924 but unfortunately the Passenger Lists only go to 1922 so I shall wait until they add another couple of years to the listing.

Many thanks for all the assistance

Canada Voters List 1962 - Sam Preval - Photographer -  62 Strathyre Ave. Jacques-Carter - Lasalle.

Canada Voters List - 1972 shows Sam Preval - Rentier - at Apt 2 62 Rue Strathyre Street La Salle Quebec

No sign of a Lillian with him on these or any prior to 1962. It may be that Canadian Privacy laws may hinder your search.

Re Sam Preval

Sam was a boarder in my family home when I was a young lad. My memories of him are limited due to my age at the time but I do remember some things. He had a parrot named Polly (what else) which he would let fly loose in the house. I don't think Polly and my mother were on the best of terms as one day she attacked my mom and took a chunk out of her lower lip. Sam left our home when he  married  Lillian but they would visit regularly especially at holidays where they would join us in on our extended family's holiday meal. I have a couple of photos that he took and also one or two of him that i would be happy to share.

So good to hear from you. Would love to see photos you have. Do you have any idea when they married?

Sam Preval of Montreal was the nephew of my Great Grandma Amy Preval who Married Alfred Allcock. I was not aware that he had been married. About 1963 The 4 Allcock sisters reunited in Seacroft, Yorkshire an Sam, their cousin was there. I would also appreciate seeing the photos that you have.
