New info found. NOT Whitby. Murphy's moved to Whitehaven Cumberland about 1876.
England census 1881 & 1891 have
Robert Murphy abt 1855 Ireland Head
Elizth Murphy abt 1851 Ireland Wife
Lizzie abt 1875 Ireland Daughter
Sarah Hannah abt 1877 Whitehaven, Daughter
Robt Henry abt 1878 Whitehaven, Son
Mary Jane abt 1880 Whitehaven, Son
Martha Js abt 1884 Whitehaven, Daughter
Ebenezer abt 1885 Whitehaven, Son
Wilfred abt 1888 Whitehaven, Son
John James abt 1890 Whitehaven, Son
There is no record of the family in 1901, so appear to have returned to Ireland after 1893 (death of Ebenezer).
I have a possible marriage of Mary Jane to Joseph Cahill about 1907 in Co Down and in 1912 I have a Mary Jane C at 6 Erin Street Belfast and Elizabeth and Dorothea??? M at 21 Erin street. Also Wilfred & Mrs Mary E M at 6 River Terrace and Robert, Sara and John James M at 78 River Terrace. At 84 River Terrace I find Joseph Cahill with Mrs Eliza Ann Mehary???.
I have family correspondence confirming the connection with 78 River terrace, but the others are more unsure.
Any additional info or confirmation will be much appreciated.

Going through old posts and found this one - have you already found the information on this family that you were looking for earlier? Since then lots of Irish resources have come online.
Starting with the Murphy family-
Wilfred Murphy in 1911- cabinet maker, born in England:
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Antrim/Cromac/Pine_Street/166124
And Murphy family in 1901-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Antrim/Cromac/River_Terrace/971042
Father Robert born in Co. Down and mother Elizabeth Co. Armagh so perhaps that's why they moved to Ireland.
Notice that in both records they are living in Cromac D.E.D. I searched 1911 for Joseph Caholl in same D.E.D. and found Joseph, wife Mary Jane (born England) and son Francis James easily-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Antrim/Cromac/River_Terrace/166442
By searching 1901 and 1911 census records you'll probably be able to get more information.

Belated thanks for those links. I have been battling brick walls on other branches so have not worked on this line for some time.
I have found considerable info on Joseph and Mary jane's generation, but am still investigating their parents. will start new threads on these lines.
The Mary Jane C at 12 Erin St, in 1912, is not related. Her husband is a seaman also called Joseph C. I always wondered why my Joseph was living at a different address.
Once again, many thanks
