I'm researching the Brocklesby family from Scawby in Lincolnshire

Of particular interest:

Parents of Louisa Brocklesby b1862 in Scawby.

I believe they were John Brocklesby b1832 in Scawby and Mary b1831 in Sturton By Stow.

Does anyone have access to records that will trace / confirm Johns siblings and his parents and grandparents.

I have checked IGI but found several Brocklesbys but not conclusive relatives.

Can you help?

She appears on the 1861 census, so a bit older than you thought

Scawby cum Sturton
John BROCKLESBY 28 AgLab, Scawby
Mary 30 Bransby (a mile from Sturton)
Louisa 1 Scawby

1871 she is aged 11, a servant in Scawby.

I had thought that they were from Scawby near Brigg in Lincolnshire.

Do you know what Scawby cum Sturton means.

If fact you're right!

Sturton is a village just south of Scawby.

Bransby is a mile from Sturton by Stow - a different place - a bit of a coincidence.

Check at www.streetmap.co.uk

Search for a place called Sturton and you will find them both - Sturton North Lincs, and Sturton by Stow.  You will find Bransby close to the latter.

I assume we are looking for a Glanford Brigg (or Gainsborough)  marriage for them ... it's strange ... I looked earlier and saw the Spilsby one, but since then two Caistor ones seems to have appeared!

A Joseph BROCKLESBY was bap at Waddingham 10 June 1802, son of Thomas and Ann - 5 or 6 miles from Scawby ... although in the 1851 census he says born in Scawby.  In fact Tom and Ann also had some kids baptised at Scawby.

John seems to have been born 1829 according to this census!
