Hello - was wondering if anyone could help me with my search. I am tring to trace my famly back further. I have got as far as
William Read
Born - 2 Dec 1784
Christened - 19 Dec 1984, Kentchurch, Hereford
Married Mary Ann
Father - John Reed
Mother - Ann
I found an entry for a possible father for him - John Reed, Christened - 20 JAN 1740 Kentchurch, Hereford, England on the IGI index. I can't find a marriage record in Kentchurch for a John Reed to an Ann.
I would particularly like to know if anyone can help me find more details of John Reed and Ann, in order to identify them as William's parents.
The Reed name has also been spelt as Read, but this seemed to occur more recently in the family tree.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Had a look today at the Kentchurch parish registers and Bishop's Transcripts and noted the various offspring of John and Ann Read backwards to the earliest, Ann, born January 2--th and baptised February 20th, 1775 (as best I coould decipher).
The most likely marriage of John Read was to an Ann Warnoll in Weobley, so I checked that event and found the following in the Weobley registers:
"John Read of the parish of Kentchurch, a batchelor, and Ann Warnoll of this parish, spinster, were married in this church by Licence the fifteenth day of January in the year 1775."
John Read and Ann Warnoll both made 'their mark'. Witnesses were a Mary Ba(u)skerville and Jo........ Warnell
I had a little time so looked up the appropriate Marriage Bond dated the 14th day of January 1775:
"On which appeared personally John Read of the parish of Kentchurch, Labourer, ....... made oath that he is of the age of thirty ...... years and upwards, a batchelor, intends to marry Ann Warnoll of the parish of Weobley aged twenty one years and upwards, a spinster ......"
A Samuel Cox of the parish of St. Nicholas Hereford made application with John Read (on his behalf maybe, as presumably John could neither read nor write having made 'his mark') and they were bound in the sum of £100 - a lot of money in those days.
Looking at the dates, if I have read them correctly, this was a 'rush job', with the child Ann born a few days later!
Hope this answers your query.

Hello Chilis - I am so sorry that I haven't replied to your very kind reply up until now, but I have a 2 year old who takes up most of my time!! I am so grateful for the trouble that you have gone to for me - the information is wonderful.
I was wondering if Ann Warnoll was likely to have been born is Weobley too? I looked at the LDS Index for Woebley, and found 3 Ann Warnell's (obviously speling varies a little):
ANN WARNELL
Christening: 03 DEC 1717 Weobley, Hereford, England
Parents: Philip Warnell & Eliz
ANN WARNELL
Christening: 21 SEP 1718 Weobley, Hereford, England
Parents: James Warnell & Ann
ANN WARNEL
Christening: 21 OCT 1749 Weobley, Hereford, England
Parents: Samuel Warnel & Mary
Since in the Marriage Bond you looked at Ann Warnoll was given as "twenty one years and upwards", does that make the last Ann Warnel the most likely option? Would it have said "thirty ...... years and upwards". like John's, if she was older??
Thank you so much for all your help
Kind regards
Claire
