Title: GATWARD (GOONS 4548)
Post by: SueW on Monday 30 January 06 07:00 GMT (UK)
Hi

I have just joined GOONS researching the GATWARD name (also variations such as GATTWARD, GATWOOD and GATHARD).

No website yet, but I am working on it!

Contact me if you have any Gatwards.

Sue

My 4x g. Grandfather Samuel Motteram (Mottram) was milling with some Gatwards at the beginning of the 1800s.

Loads of Gatward references in Therfield Herts.  Try Martin Haggar's site called therfield.net  (Google that and you should find it.)  I've done a bit of census transcription for him for the site and there were plenty of Gatward mentions there.  Go to the census index for each year and you'll find all the Gatwards in alphabetical order - very useful.

I'm also in the process of doing the Bishop's communicants lists for Therfield 1712 - 1740 for him (albeit very slowly!) and am expecting Gatward mentions there as well.  He also has some Rector's inhabitants lists for Therfield for the very early years of the 1800s which probably mention the Gatwards.

Happy hunting.
