Hi all I'm trying to date a letter that my Grandmother Charlotte Doyle Nee McCann received from her brother Shamus (James) McCann. it looks really old and as far as i know two of my Gran's brothers went across the water (as it was affectionately put here in northern ireland) to find work. He does mention my Uncle John (who would be Charlottes son) as being over there too but not seeing him in a while so i think it must be around the 1950s as my uncle john was born 1932.
Well anyhow i was wondering if anyone could give me any more info by the address at the top of the letter. im not sure if its 175 or 17s

St.Martin's flats were built in the 1950's.There was quite a thriving Irish community in Highgate. The flats replaced the old back-to-back's and was part of the regeneration that was going on at the time in Brum. There are some photos of the area here:

I think there are some some others,I'll look and let you know if you like.

Hi Lisa,
I'm intrigued by lot's of photos of St Martin's. My dad and sister lived in St Martin's with my grandparents. I'm desperate for a photo of Grandad. This is 1940's. Frederick and Mary Faulkner (ne Betteridge), Len and Sheila. Frederick was home from duty and took his own life.
