Greetings,
I wonder if anyone can help with my search.
I have recently started to trace back my family history and the earliest I have found is William Joynes in the 1851 census. He was born abt 1816 in Temple Guiting and married Mary who was born abt 1805 in Dumbleton.
Together they had four children: Elizabeth (abt 1839), Fanny (abt 1841), Hester (abt 1844) and George (abt 1848). I am decended from George.
I would appreciate if anyone could tell me who William (or Mary's) parents were, and what they were up to in 1871 (I cannot find any census information for them during this time). Any other information would also be gratefully recieved.
I have followed this line to the present day, and have some mysteries I'd love to solve. If anyone is a Joynes and would like me to share the information I have gained, I would be happy to do so.

Can't help with William's or Mary's parents but I think this should be them in 1871:

William Joines, head, 55, Master carpenter, b. Kineton Temple Guiting
Mary, wife, 65, b. Dumbleton
and next door:
George Joines, head, 23, Carpenter, b. Castelet? Guiting Power
Sarah, wife, 20, b. Temple Guiting
William, son, 1, b. Kineton Temple Guiting

Ah! I hadn't thought about other spellings. Those are definately them, and a new twist too, I had not previously know about George and Sarah's son William, I am wondering if he died early on?

Well, I can see a William Joynes age 31 born Kineton on the 1901 census ???

Couldn't trace him at first but now think he may be the Arthur W age 11 in the 1881 census - What do you think?

That makes sense, certainly fits in with the ages etc. How do you find the information so quickly? I've been using Ancestry.co.uk, and to be honest I am still trying to find the 1871 records that you found...

You can type in the reference in the reference fields - this will lead you straight to the page.

Oh... Spellings again - must be a different transcriber. Entering the record numbers in that you found, I discover William James.

If everything else fails, you could order one of the children's birth certs which would give you their mother's maiden name:
for instance (I couldn't find George)

Oh, just realising! Maybe Fanny's birth is not the best idea after all :P - in case her mother turns out to be an Elizabeth indeed!

I've briefly tried familysearch, but I wasn't as successful as you.
I came across Stephen and joyce previously, but can't remember how they fitted in, or if they did. I will re look at that too.
George's Daughter Florence (1872) looks an interesting case. Appears to have had two children out of wedlock (must have caused a stir for the times she lived in) one being my great grandfather Sidney (1890), the other Laura Lily (1893) Then she married a Herbert Clarke and had some more children. I don't think we will ever find out the father of Sidney and Laura, but I might look at requesting the birth certificates for Laura Lily. I think my Uncle said he had Sidney, but no father was mentioned.
