Title: Lamberton Toll marriage?
Post by: Silverhawk on Friday 27 January 06 17:29 GMT (UK)
I can find no reference to my great(x3)-grandparents (Andrew Barclay and Ann Curry) marriage in the St Catherine's Index or the Scottish OPRs.  He was from Berwick Upon Tweed, she was from Alnwick.  Is it possible they had one of these border marriages at Lamberton?  And if so, where would I find out for sure?

Hi Silverhawk,
Your local archives may have a copy of the book listing Lamberton Toll marriages. I think there were one or two areas where irregular marriages took place so they may have something on those too.
Good Luck,
Excel

Hi
My 2x great granparents were married at Lamberton Toll in 1853. I had trerrible trouble finding the record because the IGI gives their place of marriage as Barton (transcription error I guess). Anyway I eventually found them in a booklet called Irregular Border Marriages. I believe there are 2 volumes 1833 - 49) and (1808 - 64). compiled of old newspaper entries from the day. They were published by Northumberland County Archives Service and Durham FHS. There is probably a similar thing for Coldstream marriages....
